I have got the facility to send out a newsletter to all that have signed up to it. I have ot done one yet and was wondering if anyone could give me advice on the best way to go about it.I have the newsletter component etc it is the way it is written and suggested styles. Maybe a template would help.Would i put advertising in? Would i link to items on the site??
Any advice would e great. Please see my site to see the subject information.

I agree with Rob, make it interesting for them and not a load of sales jargon.

We add tips for SEO, links to useful, fun and relevant free software and update them on trends in the industry and thankfully we have a great read rate and click through rate.

For the basics, here is a good article... its a church site but the tips are still relevant for business.

Hope this helps

based on your website front page

'welcome to leominster'

you could report local news and events in your newsletter (linked to your site for full story..only offer a taster in your newsletter) to gain attention and to ensure it's read.

More 'news' related articles, letters etc are read than anything else. People prefer to read the news to reading sales ads!

Maybe after the news introduce an 'offer' relating to your services, that or wait till they pop across to your website for the full story.

Ensure the taster has enough info for it to be complete without providing full details. Anything less may annoy them.

Keep the tone informal, talk to them in your 'voice' not in sales pro speak etc.

Good luck

Meanwhile, get yourself a blog and in every title say the word 'leominster'

After a few blog posts like that you'll shoot up the search engine charts for all things leominster.

Keep your finger on the pulse and report all local news on your blog.

You really should keep a newsletter going out on a regular basis, so it should be ongoing, not limited to just a handful and then stop. A newsletter is a valuable communication tool that can help establish a rapport with contacts, building trust and appreciation of your company; why do just 4 or 5?

A key thing here though is thinking how often you can comfortably create and send a newsletter. If you can do one a month and not run out of things to say within 6 months then that is fine. The important factor here is content, not frequency or number.

How often do you think a news letter should go out?
I was thinking maybe 4 times or is that not enough?

I have an idea

Don't ask us, ask them!

Let your first newsletter be a survey

Ask then what they want in their local leominster newsletter

Devise a form with multiple choice questions and so on

If you'd like me to do something like this for you, I can for a small fee.

Ask them everything you are asking us

How frequent
Content length
Content topics
Would like to see member contributions and member letters?
(that could make it more interactive)

and so on.

The website is the information source, the newsletter is the introdution to this information. As such it should be written to interest the reader with snippets and tasters with links to the main articles, photgraphs, events calender and so on.

Do not under any curcumstances put adverts on the newsletter (unless it's to solicit new material).

Make sure archive copies of the newsletters are available without sign up on the website.
