This is a bit of a generalisation but bear in mind, a lot of the time it's not a good develloper/designer who can charge £500 for a simple one page website, it is the salesman, admin team, manager, businesses reputation, etc.
I'm happy to charge £500 based on the deliverables. While a one page website may seem to be simple, to me it's not. While I can wip up a website in an hour and it will rank on the local search. i.e. if I create a website for a plumber based in an area of a city it'll depend on how many plumbers have websites in their area. Also depend on what content they have. If my one page website offers better content than the competition, it will rank.

I look at any website as an online business, a gateway to generate revenue. If a one page £500 website can generate £20k a year, I consider it to be a good ROI.

Also for me, I don't want to just wip up a website. Websites that I create, I want to be better than the competition.

Ok well I'll ask you a question then. Where on a website do you intend to use CPT's? You've mentioned CPT a couple of times but haven't said where you would use them.
As an example, if I need to create a page for each service, I would use CPT's instead of pages. It's more efficient in the long term. I'll create a template design and only need to add the content.

That’s not a CPT.

It’s also the wrong way to do things if you are offering SEO (pages rank differently to posts).

And services pages will change their structure depending on the service. Which can all be done with blocks which means you can easily switch themes.

That is not a good use case for CPT's. You want your services pages created as pages. CPT's are not meant to replace page content as an alternative.

There are good use cases for Custom Post Types such as to display user-generated content, they can be used as an alternative layout template for blog posts or where you require a search function for specific results displayed in a uniform layout.

But definitely not to create service pages. As @fisicx suggests, you use blocks for page content wherever possible.

Finding these potential clients isn't going to be easy. There is just too much competition. They will search on google and pick one from the mappack with good reviews or one of the top organic results.

Why pay for something you don't need. Just use the free templates on WP and learn how to use blocks. Neither Build or builderius create clean code.

No idea what 'submit' is but if you want to be fully accessible don't use a page/site builder.

You don't need a website to rank in the mappack. GBP ranking is all about reviews.

If you want to do SEO on the website you need multiple pages. Google likes depth and breadth.

You really need to learn about marketing, AIDA, colour theory, calls to action, trustmarks, information flow, typography, content creation, image placement, landing page theory and everything else that goes into building and effective website.

If that's your requirement you will lose a lot of potential clients. Especially those who already have a website.

This is the most important part and the one that needs the most thought. How do you plan to seek out websites that could do with a bit of work?

Where is your website?

Upgrade your membership and get a website review. The responses may feel harsh but they are all made with good intent. I've had my many websites reviewed and implementing the suggestion made a big difference.

"Finding these potential clients isn't going to be easy. There is just too much competition. They will search on google and pick one from the mappack with good reviews or one of the top organic results."

I was thinking about generating leads either from here or from creating a page that targets website redesign. Starting off by offering my service as a reduced rate or for free to build my portfilo.

"Why pay for something you don't need. Just use the free templates on WP and learn how to use blocks. Neither Build or builderius create clean code."

Gutenberg blocks are not great at the moment. There is a plugin called Blockstudio that allows you to create clean html output. The free themes out there are not that good in terms of html and it'll slow me down in terms of adding css. Bricks and Builderius are better than the free themes out there IMO. I bought both Bricks and Builderius on life time deals. No extra cost to me. I'm also not keen on free template themes. I find theme to be restrictive and find myself having to create hacks to create a website. New website builders that I've mentioned do product clean htlm code. If I add a h1 the output is a h1, no extra divs.

"No idea what 'submit' is but if you want to be fully accessible don't use a page/site builder."

You were right to question "on submit" I meant to say accessibility. People with a disability who find it difficult to use the internet. I want to make it easier for them. The builder that I mentioned allow me to do that.

"You really need to learn about marketing, AIDA, colour theory, calls to action, trustmarks, information flow, typography, content creation, image placement, landing page theory and everything else that goes into building and effective website."

The framework that I've decided to use is "problem agitate solution" The reason is that I want to address people's problems, show that I understand the problem and solve it. So for me it's about targeting the problem as supposed to target small businesses as an example. I'm looking to target those who are looking to come away from, say WIX and want a custom build.

"If that's your requirement, you will lose a lot of potential clients. Especially those who already have a website."

I don't mind not getting many customers. I've got a full time job and don't want to compete on price. I want to offer a better quality website. 5 years ago as an example, google didn't include accessibility in the google insights metrics but it does now. I want to offer a better standard website than my competitors.
"Where is your website?

Upgrade your membership and get a website review. The responses may feel harsh but they are all made with good intent. I've had my many websites reviewed and implementing the suggestion made a big difference."

I don't have a website at the moment. I originally built it using Kadance and when I moved hosting, I decided to scrap it. I'm going to rebuild the website using Builderius. Once built, I will look to upgrade for sure. I don't just want to fly out websites, but I want to help customers build their online business. I want to grow as my customers grow.

I'm more than happy for critique, regardless if it's harsh. If anything, it's the best way IMO. While not compulsory, it may be an idea for people to use a framework like "problem agitate solution" to reply. Just saying a person is naive without helping the user to the solution doesn't help anyone. Just to stress you have not. There are some things that I may not agree with as an example, Kevin Geary. However, not a single person in my opinion knows everything. If we collectively share experiences and fill the gaps in knowledge, we can all prosper.

Rather than building a each service page I'll be using a template. Each template is created using complements. So the component could be as small as a button or parts of a section.

If I created individual pages, they would be static. Say a year down the line the customer wants be to update every page with a promo for xmas . I'll have to go to each page and update each page one be one. When I create a custom post type I can just update one location and query it on the frontend. Would this not be the case?

Creating a Custom Post Types over a page is easier to query on the front end over a page.
Plus every service is uniformed and easier to build. Say I want to build a hero section, h1, text, button and background image for each service page. Pretty standard layout. I would create a hero section component and add it to the Custom Post Types of services. I can then easily query it on the front end.

They haven't been gutenberg blocks for years. Have you even tried the latest set? You can do so much more than the original offering. And the latest themes offer full site editing.

Build and builderius do NOT create clean HTML. The brickbuilder homepage has over 800 items inn the DOM!

And the h1 is:
Code:
<h1 class="brxe-heading hero_title">The visual site builder that grows with you.</h1>
No need for those classes. Or this:

Code:
<p id="brxe-ikqogu" class="brxe-text-basic text-align-center text-size-large max-width-content-large">

That's exactly how wordpress already works. No need for a CPT. But each service page should be slightly different. Some will want more detail than others. some need accordions. Some need galleries. Some need additional features. No two will ever be the same.

If you want a promo on every page you use widgets. That's what they are for.

I agree based but it's also based on the three ranking factors Relevance, Distance and Prominence. Grant it I've only managed one website but a one page website has done well. It outperformed several multi page websites. I tested it on people's mobile phones who never searched for the keyword and also used vpns. I'm not just going on theory but it did happen.

You don't need a Custom Post Type for that you can do it with a page template

I tend to create separate page templates and each page template then pulls in it's own header.php and footer.php

I even have templates where content is already added but each page can change specific words on the page.

These templates can then be used for posts, pages, categories, etc.

Well done. But there is a lot more to it than just those 3 factors. Look at EEAT - that's what google is looking for. And a normal site makes achieving these a lot simpler.

How many leads is this site generating? Has it brought in a bucket load of new business?

I ask this because I ranked for a whole load of keywords none of which generated any decent traffic. I now rank worldwide for some very useful keywords - because I listened to those who know what they are doing.

I'm not a big fan of Gutenberg, widgets, or a lot of the themes out there, to be honest.

I create components for the frontend and use custom fields on the backend using Meta Box. Say I create a service page template for seven sections as an example.

I only add content for 5 sections in the backend and query them on the frontend. Only five out of the seven sections will show on the frontend. The layout/structure is the same but the content, i.e. images and text, is different.

I still have the option to add anything unique to that page if I need to.

That is just such a complicated way to do things.

What's wrong with the free themes? Or even the premium themes come to that. Rather than reinvent the wheel just find a theme you like and use if for all your projects.

And your idea for services pages is just wrong. Service pages by their very definition are variable. The structure of each will be different.

I'm happy to try and fail. I do believe it's the way to go.

"They haven't been gutenberg blocks for years. Have you even tried the latest set? You can do so much more than the original offering. And the latest themes offer full site editing."

Sorry, it may be terminology. Full site editing is getting better. I don't know php but I've seen youtube videos and updating the theme.json. There are a lot of css controls missing that you can add. I also don't like when you add a h3 using the wordpress theme it adds an extra wrapper.

On on side now have you checked out wpturbo.dev and blockstudio? They may or may not be usful but wanted to share.

With regards to the dom on it's better to have less html elements on the page as much as possible. Easier for the browser to parse the data. Builderius and Bricks don't have extra html elements. I also admit that I shouldn't have used the word clean code but cleaner than most.

How do you create a page template? I'm doing the same thing it seems but in a different way. Are you using code php code or using a plugin?

I'm interested in what you are saying for sure. Would you have an example resource by any chance?

Anyway, you seem to have it all sorted so good luck and hope it all goes well.
When I used the 2024 and I added a h3 it added an extra wrapper.

I hope that wpturbo.dev was useful to you as a tool to help you develop plugins faster and easier. Open.AI is so cheap at the mo. I'd like to thank you. I do truly mean it.

Sorry I missed this, is there any resource in ukbusinessforums on why you are referring to.

That will be gold to ukbusinessforums users.

You got a tactic that works.

Of no use at all to me. The sort of plugins I build use a lot of jQuery calculations. When I tested using wpturbo it got it totally wrong (loan repayment comparisons using amortisation with variables pulled from sliders and data from a database). Open.AI was even worse.
