New idea for a Social Networking Site

Hey guys.

I have a new idea for a new social networking site but have no idea where to go with it.

My friend was working away and and he said he didnt know anybody where he was working. We came up with an idea where u could load up ur profile which best describes u and using perhaps Google maps, u could meet people for drinks or for other social activities depending on how well each others profiles matches.

The website name which i purchased is pretty good, buddy dash wiser dot com

Income stream wise, money could be made from using pub/restaurant chains as meeting venues using Google Maps etc, or could be a paid service.

I would be interested in any feedback or possible partnership to develop this further...

Not really sure if there would be demand for this? how many people would meet up with a randomer for a drink not knowing them at all.
also the name buddyweiser may be too close to budweiser and cost u money should you grow large (yes i no thats the 'pun')

sex being the keyword... I read OP as for making friends?

thats the whole idea matching the profiles of the users before they agree to meet.

My reply was slightly tongue in cheek but if your read that article and compare it to OP's idea:

It's not much different.

The point being it would take a HUGE amount of resources to get anywhere near a tiny fraction of the scale of that site.

Having an idea is one thing but having the resources to implement it effectively is where most will fail.

It's a bit like WAYN (Where Are You Now) and WAYN Dating.

I think their site has "gone over" a bit now. Frankly it's not the easiest and best way to meet new people.

Also a lot of people use Gumtree when they're new in town to hook up with people while they're there, so you'd have to contend with that.

There are many difficult issues around safety and security also.

I'm not sure if this is really a good idea. Most people would think more of their safety other that going out and have a drink with strangers. Even if you say they match, coz it's very easy pretend especially those people who have bad intentions.

so how do social network site make money normally? Advertising, sell information, and what else?

I might set up an online community instead where people can talk about any topic they want and get to know each other that way.
