Hello, I'm a start up cake company. Am getting business at the minute mainly through word if mouth but would like to increase my customer base. Does anyone have any thoughts as to wether leaflet drops are worthwhile for this type of business? Thank you in advance!

leaflet drop sounds a good idea.

will you be supplying cakes locally? You could always sign up to a low cost eCommerce package and take orders online with a website?
When you receive orders then put some business cards with the package too.

Some cake companies ship throughout the UK but it obviously depends how you send them as you dont want them to be damaged

Have cake party's and invite friends and friends of friends round to buy the cakes or slices

just some ideas :D

Go to the registry office and see the marriage posts.. i understand it is public information and you have to register your intent to marry 6-12 months before you tie the knot.. they will need a cake

leaflets sound like a good idea, but also very time consuming and possibly quite costly, as how many people look at leaflets? Also it would only be very local to you and only a small amount of possibilities.
Wedding fayres would be a good idea if you offer wedding cakes, you would just need a stall and people will see your designs and sometimes will book you there and then.
Other option is a small website, Ukusmarketing offer 3 page websites from £99.99 with 2 years free hosting and free domain name, feel free to pm me if you would like a link to their site.

I'd say leaflet drops are a good idea but to be honest you need to try as many avenues as possible, obviously taking cost into account.

Do you have a Facebook page, twitter account or website of any sort?

You could use leaflet and leave in Wedding shops and for Fairs. I would suggest a decent quality leaflet and go for quality over quantity. Or postcards/business cards.

If you do birthday cakes as well try a children's adventure play place to leave leaflets or get them to promote (with) you.

Go to a networking meeting and provide cakes (cup-cakes) - you'll need cards/leaflets for that.

I have other ideas if you want to pm me!

First of all congrats for the new cake company. I really proud of you. Leaflet drops is really great idea.
My suggestion is create a website and share all the latest cakes with image and content. Another thing is post an ad in newspaper and provide some discount with attractive gift, like buy one get one free or anything that suite your business.
I think that helps to increase your business. All the best. Thank you.:)
