Hello,

Recently i have been working on my business and my mind is always negative. When i try invest in a new website my mind says this will fail. Overall my mind just seems so negative everyday and i try as much as possible to be happy. I really like my job but i really wish my brain was not trained to be so negative.

Does anyone else experience this and do you know any ways to overcome this please?

Maybe you have real doubts about whether your business idea will succeed?

If you stay with this mindset, it surely will fail. Without knowing what your idea is, and what preparation and planning you have done - it’s impossible for us to comment on whether those fears are justified or imaginary.

Perhaps you should write out a list of reasons it will succeed, against a list of reasons why you think it might not. See which is the most convincing list and then go with that...

    Happy Tuesday Everyone ! :)

    Dream it !
    Believe it !
    Become it ! :)

Don't let nothing! , I mean nothing! stand in the way of where you want to be :):)

    :)

    First things first

Do you have a clear plan in place of what you want to achieve
Have you done adequate market research
What this is costing /is the funding in place
    Time scale
Do you have the right skills and right people on board

    2) Is the point you are at now the point where you wanted your business to be now .If not now is the time to make adjustments !.

Without us knowing anything about your business it is always difficult to comment

There will be uncertainty when running a business and I think it takes many years for a person to be in the frame of mind where it just never bothers them anymore

It is important to have things outside of the business that make you happy . I run every morning and do other strange things

I recommend that you post everything about your business on your profile here and keep asking questions
Tell us more because we want to know

    Julie,

I’m sorry to read this but you can fix this. It needs dealing with.

In business you must always work on the glass being half full, even when faced with total adversity planning for success is the ONLY option. Anything less is planning for failure. So you need your mind focused in that positive way.

It’s difficult at the moment with this lock down but I would seriously recommend you arrange for one to six sessions with a local psychology practice. Google CBT treatment in your area and phone one, probably cost you £60 an hour but I think it’s what you need? Sounds to me like something else is making you feel negative, mild depression, other life issues you haven’t dealt with properly?

In America almost everyone has a phycologist to talk to.

You could get a free referral from your doctor but you might be waiting a long time, mental health care is unfortunately under pressure in the U.K. and you are not likely to be a priority. Could be a long wait. It might be worth you talking to you doctor anyway, a course of anti-depressants might also be in order to kick start your positive energy.

Failing the above, chat with a good friend, surround yourself with positive people and offload the drainers. You can do this...

Heck even with this crappy Covid situation, there is still lots out there you can find to be positive about.

    Good luck

@Ian J might well be right. Have a think about why you are running your own business and whether it's been driven by positive thoughts and feelings or whether it was a suck it and see type venture without too much thought.

On the other hand... I, like many of us, have doubts on a day basis - it's entirely normal. I think I've said this a few times on this forum but you need to do what makes you happy. If running your own business doesn't, don't do it. If working for a particular boss doesn't, leave them. But consider that not all bosses are equal, some are great and give you a real purpose in life and in your role. What is the purpose of your business? Not what product or service are you selling, but why did you start it in the first place?

When I have a rough patch I think of the million and one benefits I get from running my own business. I get freedom, I answer to nobody, I don't have to do one thing over and over, i decide my hours, pay and who I work with. It's unpredictable but also rewarding. I have to depend on myself to deliver something or achieve a certain goal - this is rewarding in its own right. I don't care about the salary (although I do earn something from what I do). I've had a job paying nearly 10x as much working for an idiot - I would never go back to that, or a version of it, for any money!

Stop what you are doing. Try and remember why you are doing what you are doing, what's the purpose? You're not alone in your thinking, we all get there at times, just recognise that you will have fewer choices if you allow this negative mindset to continue.

Have a think. Free from pressurising yourself to make a decision right that second. It might take some time. It's tough right now, and will get tougher, but to me this is exactly the time that being ones own boss brings the biggest challenges and also the biggest satisfaction.

If you want to call and chat (I don't want money or gifts), I'm happy to do so...

Otherwise good luck, and remember, you're not alone!

I think everyone feels like way from time to time, but in business you have to positive, but realistic. If you start off all doom and gloom it's only going to get worse, especially when having to deal with day to day issues in a business. It's a doom and gloomy time with what's going on in the world, and the media are very negative so the doesn't help. If you're having problems being positive, stay away from the media, stay away from negative influences in your life (i.e .friends and family who make you feel bad or doubt yourself) and try to just concentrate on the positives in your life. ie What it good about your business? What are you most proud of?

    Don't think too far ahead.

Take one stage (step) at a time.

Complete it, then move to the next stage.

Think of your business as a road map. Decide where you are, decide where you wish to go. Work out the route/actions required to get there. Make a plan and stick to it. No brain surgery involved, but you need to provide the motivation, find what it is that will drive you in the hard times.

I used to sell door to door in my youth, if you ever want to experience rejection try that industry. I kept a picture in my car sunvisor of my two new born daughters, which I would look at for a minute before starting work, to remind myself why I was doing what I was doing.

A guy I trained kept a simple note in his pocket, it just said when you fall down, get up. It was what his disabled daughter learnt and said everytime she fell over when trying to walk on her prosthetic legs.

You think you have problems, plenty of people have real problems.

If you are having real issues keeping motivated, you may need to concentrate on your mental health first. If you have gone beyond the usual cases of self doubt and imposter syndrome that most of us suffer from from time to time, you may underlying mental health issues to attend to first.

Once you do get up and running you will find it a lot more difficult to look after these issues

As a previous poster mentioned, if this is your 6th thread on this matter then I would either give my head a serious wobble after slapping myself around the cheeks several times or get a job with your local council. Positivity and negativity are a state of mind and need controlling. Learn to control them if you want to enter and stay in business.

Jeremy Hawke made an important point when he said he goes out running every morning. When you find yourself being consistently negative then the first thing to aim to improve are your energy levels. There are three very important factors to consider when trying to improve energy levels and all three are fundamental to a stable and efficiently functioning existence. These factors are so fundamental that they are equally important irrespective of whether you are running your own business or working as an employee. They are:
    1) Get sufficient sleep on a regular and consistent basis. Going to bed at a set time enables a regular routine to be established.
    2) Get a regular and consistent diet of good healthy food and keep to meal times irrespective of work pressures.
    3) Get plenty of exercise to boost your serotonin levels.

Go get all these things as they are fundamental. All these things were just as fundamental to the Neanderthals all those thousands of years ago. We haven't changed. The intervening elapsed time is a micro dot compared with the overall human time span of our fundamentals. We have no choice but to comply with these requirements. You Julie are no different.

Do not question yourself until you have got all these fundamentals sorted out.

All three should be given equal priority. Don't favour any one at the expense of the others.

If you are still feeling negative after 6 months have passed after getting all these fundamentals sorted out and maintained consistently then you should consult your doctor. There are some hereditary health conditions which can contribute to negative thoughts. So you should consider if your frame of mind is familiar to other family members. If not, then I would hope getting the fundamentals sorted should correct your undesirable frame of mind.
