Have a look at the send a cow website as there is really great content sendacow.org.uk far its helped promote equality within the homes, funded children going to school, helped improve farming techniques and much more. What do you think about this cause - would love to have some opinions? Thanks for your time and if ive posted in the wrong thread - i do apologies more then happy to take it down ..xx

I think its really awesome and good work you're doing. Keep up the good work. Just the other day i was looking at photographs from Africa. And in one such photo the photographer had captured a heart- touching image. Of how a small boy was crawling his way up to the UN support camp. And just beside him was a vulture waiting for the boy to die.

So i do ho a cow makes a difference. And it will.

All the very best

Hi, 've not donated yet :(

BUT! I am going to run a "send a cow for christmas" campaign! I'm going to launch it this weekend :)

I love the idea, very rewarding and quirky!
10% off everyones course fees will go towards sending a cow or two for xmas! I'm going to have a funky little map on the website of where our cow is! Its' obviously not going to be "true" but when we have half the money, the cow will be halfway there!

I can't wait to get it all on the website :D

I'm going to start a "name that cow" thread soon, so we can choose a name. I'll even give the winner a "I named the cow" award logo that they can have on their website... its all a bit of fun but for a good cause!

Well thats what you are doing with these schemes - giving money to the local African rich warlord/chief/elder/big-wig/etc.

The money does not reach the people in need - it is syhoned off into the pockets of the local power broker. So unless 'Send a Cow' has got some mechanism that no other charity has, your money will end up lining the pocket of the local big-wig.

I've worked in Africa and seen where the wests charity donations of money/goods/etc end up.

There is also an attitude in Africa - 'why should I work when the west will give me what I want!'

So your gifts prelong this attitude and thereby the poverty you are hoping to avert.

Hello my friends - makes me happy to hear good feedback.
Jen - The work that you are doing is fantastic and we can't thank you enough for all the Send a Cow content that you have put on your own business site...and just generally to have taken an interest in our quirky charity :)
Boroova - That's really interesting - what sort of work did they do there? would love to know :)

Just thought I would keep you updated with what Send a Cow are now doing:

Its called 'Read to Feed' and this is a little a bit about it in six steps-
1. Children choose books to read from the sendacow children's site cowforce.com and then invite a 'Send a Cow Ambassador' to come and speak about the charity's work.
2. Children are given bookmarks to encourage a sponsorship and continue reading
3. Continued reading will earn the children stickers for their bookmarks to show progress. Teacher's can get materials from a site dedicated to them called cowfiles.com
4. Children collect their sponsorship money and match it to help what we give in africa using sendacowgifts.org.uk
5. Children send the money in and they will receive a thank you certificate and we send you one too.
6. The money gets to work straight away to help families grow enough to eat, have an income and protect their environment.

*Just one book can start a whole chain of giving.... :) Hope you can spread the word on behalf of me to possibly your children's schools. What do you think about this new avenue we are taking to change a family's future?

Hi - I have seen your forum threads on Send a Cow Charity - I work for a company who run a website for the Fire Fighters Charity where every travel insurance policy sold on the site makes a donation to the fire fighters charity -- It occured to me that this might be a way of raising money for your cause - we would be prepared to put together a free website along the lines of the fire fighters site and then it would just be a matter on making a link from send a cow site! Let me know what you think

Hello everyone - do hope you all had a good weekend ... I had a really great one - went to a friends wedding and managed to get some donations for the charity :)
Jen - How are you? Do hope the business is going well :)
Aisdirect - Thank you so much for suggesting that kind gesture but if you and your company just wanted to spread the word about the Send a Cow Charity and our website sendacow.org.uk that would be great! There is also a section where you can donate under the Family Friends section :) Again the gesture is much appreciated.

Thats a different concept of fundraising.

If anyone is looking for more 'different' ways to raise funds then take a look at learning4less.com 'fundraising' page. It's a fantastic way to help the community raise cash for whatever cause.

Thanks for that Franky - I'll be sure to inform Send A Cow about the website you've suggested.

It's been a hectic couple of weeks, Christmas is not too far away and we've got some new initiatives in the hope of raising more funds to overcome poverty in Africa. I'll keep you all updated ...Stay Tuned :) God Bless x

Hey all - I just wanted to add this quote as I thought those who have joined into this thread will be interested to know that .....
Mary Omondi, a farmer from Kenya said: “Send a Cow has not only helped me grow more food so that we have enough to eat. Since our happy home training, I am overwhelmed to see how our family life has improved. I get on so much better with my husband now and when I go out he stays in and cares for the children and we make decisions together. We are very happy and there is a lot of love in our home now.”

God Bless x

Hi S_10 - The website has launched now and you can find our virtual gifts sendacowgifts.org.uk ...We've got all types of gifts that you can buy to help change a farmer's life (as suggested by the quote given by Mary Omondi.) They all come in at different price bands as well so that might be quite useful.
Thanks for your support.

Hi, I want to donate as well but I heard that loads of these organisations just take half of the money you pay, and the second half ends up somewhere in africa but never helps the people its supposed to help... Any experience?

That would be great if you could donate, every little counts! :) Here is our new Christmas catalogue which will definitely be of interest to you - http://www.sendacowgifts.org.uk/

I am able to shed some light on your question yes, 74% of our total income was spent on our charitable objectives last year.
It cost us 24p from every pound last year to raise our income.
