Hi James

We just started using Zopim

https://www.zopim.com/

Tracks visits and gives you triggers to automate converstaion openings with potential customers. There is a free version which is quite limited, but you get a free 14 day evaluation of the full version (it just downgrades to free at the end of the trial)

For simply tracking visits we use statcounter and google analytics.

I am sure there are many other options for this

Feel free to drop by our site fir a chat! :)

Hi Jamesavery,

I can see there is a lot of love here for Zopim but let me tell you my experiences with both chat software’s Zopim &Livechat inc.

If there was one reason for choosing Livechatinc over Zopim it would be the degree in which you can easily customise the “We are here” and the “Chat Online” chat speech bubble.

I conducted a split test with a client of ours using both chat software’s to find out which chat software engaged and converted the client to initiate the chat function.

Because of the custom graphic that we used in Livechatinc we found that we had a massive 600% increase in user engagement.

The second big advantage with Livchatinc is the custom downloadable chat client interface which is just like having Skype in your system tray.
The reason for it being an advantage is that some chat sessions could potentially be missed with Zopim due to being browser based. Basically the chat notification is in the browser and could potentially be missed if you’re working on a different browser or monitor.

My final reason would also be the ability to see what the visitor is writing prior to them submitting their message. So preparing the canned response or pushing them to a page with the information they are looking for is much more efficient.

Other than that it’s pretty much like for like on features!

Neither chat software’s come cheap but this link should ease the pain if you do become interested in Livechatinc: http://www.appsumo.com/livechat-hot-promo/?rf=srch#overview

Hi Jamesavery,

There's lots of useful info here about specific chat software but returning to your original question, the implication was that you may be looking for something that does more than just respond to people live on the site? I may have read it wrong but if you're also interested in overall visitors analytics (beyond those that are live at any given time) then there are many solutions available on the market, ranging from the free (Google Analytics and some others) through to pay-for.

I may be biased (I work at Provide Support), but I recommend you to try our chat software. According to our clients' feedback, our system is very easy and intuitive. It may also be more reliable than some newly established services that offer free or just very cheap plans. And if you need any assistance, you can contact us through our support chat anytime with any questions, including technical ones. We are ready to help 24/7.

James,
I've now implemented WhosOn twice in my last two companys.

The company that provides it is up in Stoke and are really helpful. The solution is robust, scalable and uses a complete microsoft technology stack (including Sql Server express if you havent already got an MSDN subscription).

The two places that I've implemented this have been high volume environments - it also has built in MIS reporting and allows you to track as many web sites as you like in real time (you can see what page visitors are on, how long they'vew been there, you can ping them - ITS COOL!)

I will be implementing this again shortly.

Hope this helps,
Paul.
