Hi,

I have just started my business which is an adult sex toy shop. I agree this is very competitive market hence wanted some advice.

I am running this shop with opencart e-commerce platform and have already invested in a SEO module which has kind of made the site SEO friendly.

At present I am not getting any traffic on the site and can only see my site if I search with its name.

I spoke to few SEO companies both here in UK and also some in India who all promise to make my site appear on page 1 of google, I do understand this process might take months and not instant.

Any advice on how I should go about this and also can anyone recommend a good SEO company possibly one already worked on this market?

Budget is low being a start up but if I see results in orders all that will be going back in advertising and SEO hence I need someone who can understand and work with me on this. I am willing to put all profits back in provided its improving and giving results however long it takes.

Thanks

If you ain't got the money it ain't gonna work. There are loads of companies all selling adult products and they all invest huge amounts in marketing (of which SEO is just a part).

Ignore anyone who promises to get you to number 1 on Google and isn't charging you thousands. Anything less than this will acheive nothing.

You have entered a business area that is highly competitive. If you want converting traffic you need to have a considerable marketing budget.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the last company I worked selling adult toys spent over 20k on SEO and marketing and failed within a year.

I dont mean to jump in with a negative comment, or to dishearten you....but....

You have said you have a low budget......and you have said several companies have promised you a page 1 position. The two do not go together.

The question you need to know is 'which keywords' will you be on page 1 for, and what is the average volume of traffic on google.co.uk for those keywords each month.

From what you have told us, I honestly don't think SEO would be right for you..... on a low budget your not going to make any kind of a dent on the market, significantly enough to bring buying traffic to the site.

You probably need to look at alternative ways of generating traffic rather than organic Google and SEO.

Agree with those questioning your SEO strategy, though presumably you knew this when you started your business? You didn't think SEO would be easy / cheap!

What made you start this business and how did you think that your business would be different from other ones serving this market?

If you don't have the budget then try some non-SEO/growth hacking ways to drive traffic to your site. Record some 'how to' videos of people using the products, give out some freebies to porn stars in return for them using them in a film, write blogs on specialist sites... basically just build up your brand and customers will come (sorry, unintentional pun!).

Think guerilla marketing. Alternatively, hire an expert in SEO (like Tin) or study and learn to become one yourself. A single person has been responsible for most of the big organic wins on extremely competitive phrases like 'SEO' (at least 2 of the page 1 results are single-handed victories), 'accounting software' (the #2 result is the effort of one man)... the list goes on.

You can win via organic, social, some email (via lead capture) and a slew of guerilla - though are you willing to give away discount cards at 3am at the nearest swingers club - that's the question ;)

What about if you wrote a blog each day targeting specific keywords slowly over time this could build up an organic audience? Along side that maybe set a low budget on [exact match keywords] to avoid blowing loads of cash? Just a thought?

KKW98, I have read your massage that you are selling sex toys online and wants to get ranking on some keywords in Google and many company promises you but they failed to get you the ranking on the 1st page in google because the high competition of the keywords.

I agree that sex toys keywords have high search volume in the market but this is can not be the only reason they failed to get the ranking higher because along with the high competition of the keywords that are difficult to built the quality backlinks based on this keywords (sex toys). The backlinks would help you to get the keywords ranking higher in search engine but most of blog /site owners does not want to post this kinds of theme (sex toys) to their own blog. Hence it is difficult to make the back links. I am sure if you check the previous company's work sample that they have collected for your site you would not see any quality backlnks in it that help to boost the ranking.

Hello David, it’s a true that you need to spend big amounts for getting lots of traffic for your site as well as conversion. As there are many other marketing channels in Digital marketing where you require bigger budget for promotion your site. But if you have lower budget and wants to do SEO hence I would like to suggest you to go through local SEO where you don’t need to spend lots of money just choose few keywords (4-5 keywords) based on your few targeted locations and promote them accordingly. Once you get the result then you can target few more keywords along with the old keywords.
