Hello, I am from China and have worked in apparel manufacturing and exporting for 10 years, with very mature and competitive resources. Basic Tshirt style is my advantaged item, both on the cost and quality controlling.

Attracting customers not only depends on good designs, but much more on the products quality and reasonable price location, nice design, nice quality, nice price...then there will be nice business. If you'd like to start apparel business from designs, I think you may need a professional person help you build up your quality system according to your market and price locations, for the garment manufacturing still a traditional handmade industry no matter how the world improved, and its manufacturing process and quality controlling much more complicated and difficult than normal goods copy produced by machine.

If you wanna your designs come to the best quality effect in your cost range, if you wanna a professional person help you handle and control all quality issues, pls feel free to PM me for further discussion.

If you want labour with skills and low pay, you can consider Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, blah blah. That is what big companies are doing. But as you have just started, I think you can outsource in UK first, you can search forums related and then ask people there. Hope it helps :)

What research have you done yourself so far, I presume you made a business plan of some sort that worked out who your market would be , what price range you would place your products at and how you intend to sell them, how many you need to buy to get them cut and sewn

Are you actually designing a garment or just a design onto say a t shirt. if designing do you understand fabrics and why certain fabrics are used and where to buy them from

There is quite a lot of work you need to do yourself before asking such open questions

Sorry that's not how it works, you gat the capital to be able to start

Selling needs lots of capital and a market, Cheap in cheap out only way to make money is to sell many thousands other wise cost of sales is greater than profit

To many start-ups think that because a shop sells t-shirts at £20-25 then great money to be made actual cost to the shops is about £3.00 or less

How are you going to sell them and who to?

how much capital would i need to start with?

You can get e-commerce software for free or pay a few hundred thousand

You need a card payment system to take card payments

A web site on its own is basically useless unless you can get it to rank or use PPC advertising

Social Marketing is a long term solution , when most people come across your site they are just looking not looking to buy there and than, search engines are the opposite

Go into your local shops and see if they would be interested you have nothing to lose but plenty of knowledge to gain

Dear Sir, Have you with some detailed ideas on the Tshirt fabric composition, 100% cotton, or CVC or TC, or if some more detailed ideas about the fabric quality, like the quality should be similar as which Tshirt brand(HM, FOREVER 21, PUMA OR NIKE OR ADIDAS...)And if some idea on the print quality...fabric quality and print quality all affect the price...

Better locating your market first which will bring you a clear price and quality range, than collect some similar samples in market to show me the fabric and print quality you wanna, then will come to a easy handle.

I well understand you have your own print design, but usually print with different quality, rubber print, water print...If you are not sure which quality you will use, could check some similar tshirt samples from your locating market's similar products.

Eg, I wanna my Tshirt business similar as which brands, then collect some samples of those brands, to get know their general quality on the fabric and workmanship and print details, according to such ideas communication with me, I will know exactly what you want, and help you well control both on the quality and cost.

Do them in as small a batch as you can and sell at zero profit if need be and get on with it

IF and when they are selling in any volume - then do the other work

Simple - fast - time and so cost efficient

Or 6 months on you will still be piddling about

Asking a factory to deal with the fabric details is not going to get you the best results. You need to go to the high street and research what's already out there. What's your target audience - it will effect what you want the garment to fit like. What season are you planning to sell in as that may effect garment weight. Do you want any special finishes on the fabric?
You need garment tech packs to send the factory so they can cost accurately.
The fashion industry is really competitive and it is just not a case of contacting a factory and them manufacturing a fantastic product for you from a very brief description.

Dear Emma, Nice meeting you here! Nice suggestion!

That's what I talked "Better locating your market first which will bring you a clear price and quality range, then research and collect some similar samples in market to show me the fabric and print quality you wanna", which will be more easier for a brand starter to handle. For your samples will show me exactly the quality details you wanna, and re other points like the fitting and quality details will be handled by me according my professional knowledge and communication with you via these samples...

It's not too difficult to ring them, visit their web site or go and see them in person, then you can decide if they can provide what you need.

Except he didn't ask that, he asked whether you had any experience with them yourself, presumably looking for feedback about them from someone who's used them rather than for their sales pitch.

have you got experienced with them?
What are their prices like? and quality of work?

But in the context of the thread, I chose to suggest that he gets information from the supplier rather than a third party. I would much rather visit a supplier, see the quality and negotiate prices, rather than place an order based on third party info, only to find its not what I wanted.

In my opinion selling cheap shirts online is not going to cut it.Amazon cuts any e-commerce retailer on that.
Second you would need in thousands for a decent website and great SEO.If you don't rank high on google these days you are waisting your time and money.Ecommerce is very crowded marketplace.Fast shipping and rates is also a major factor!

    Cheers!!!
