My Shoppingbank

Has anyone dealt with this company?

Not really sure what they are trying to get me to sign up for very vague?

They remind me of another company edirectory or something - had a high sign up fee if I remember??

I always ask cold callers to send an email - at least that way you can go through things at your own pace and at a time that suits.

Just went through the email and lo and behold edirectory have rebranded again!

My word, the last rebrand was a disaster - I remember thinking why on earth did they change their name from edirectory to myfaveshop - what rubbish!

Shopping bank? a contradiction in terms? Whoever is selling these rebrands is making a shedload of money for very poor work.

Any business that rebrands itself twice in 2 years is either highly sought after and being bought out OR gone bust and re-emerged under a new name. You pays your money and you takes your choice on this one.

How interesting, the myfavshop branding didn't last very long now did it

They are desperately going for the facebook generation with a community feel - shop with your friends concept is a good one but I doubt their users will know half the history of this business as eDirectory.com.

Maybe they've cleared out all of those "less than truthful" sales sorts who promise vast riches in return for, er, vast riches :p

They've started chasing me lately again and I keep missing them. Which is a shame as I'm dying to point out that their business model only actually works if they keep getting sign ups.

They left a 3 minute voicemail for me!

BUT WAIT! I'm forgetting that they'll use twitter and facebook to promote my products. Joy. :)

With their listing charges I'd take hundreds of orders before I recoup my investment.

AND - last time when they spoke to me - when quizzed about search volumes for anything but the broadest category they were "unable" to tell me. Which strikes me as either a) unprofessional or b) extremely suspicious

Good luck to them.

They called 2 of my clients last week.
They have a set patter where they say what a well optimised site you have and you have been 'selected' for inclusion in their shopping sites/social media sites etc etc. We had a look at the contract and its full of holes and has no accountability on their part. They are looking to use online shops content to build their own credibility as they are not actually very well optimised themeselves on many shopping categories. We also had a quick look at the 'social media' side of their sites and its very empty so a lot of smoke and mirrors.....oh and they want £1500 for the pleasure of using all your content!

I know when I was contacted for my beauty range I received a few calls, but have to say I have not looked back since. I noticed Look Fantastic and other well known retailers with them so thought it was worth a punt. I have my suff on GMTV Kelkoo and other big sites which to be honest would of cost me £thousands more direct.

The social side of things they introduced a few months back and now I can see all my potential customes, contact them re; offers and see what it is about the range they live. O and the customers are now on the site loads longer, they do keep you up to date on stuff like that. I joined when it was edirectory.co.uk the reason they have changed their name (announcement in their back office to us merchants stated) they amalgamated both edirectory and myfaveshop into one to offer a shopping/social experience for customers and they have dont just that moving into the future.

They have a few different options, I started on a small package but have recently upgraded with my account manager to show a couple of hudnered products now so a worth considering if you are an online business!

Very poor effort at self-promotion. No matter how many times you change names, as long as the service is hideously over-priced with aggressive salesmen who 'stretch' the truth, your service will continue to receive the public feedback it deserves ;):D

That's just shameful, but not very surprising given how the company run their sales and marketing operation.

If you don't mind the question, what did that cost you, and how much in sales do you think it's generated?

i paid around £680 for 50 products one year! displyed on differt websites they work work.

i think ive had 6-7 sales for the last 4 months!! average £25 pr. item

i had high hopes since their affiliate network is so big! a company their site it's amazing no more sales, but i think they have grown to big and is killing themselfs as they have to many different products of all sorts and in one webshop(one basket) feature

or perhaps lesleyk would care to give us the url to her site or just her business name so we can see what she is doing that is making it all work for her...clearly she has the right formula that the rest seem to have missed...

Always nice to see a success story.... :)

She wrote about 20 months ago that she'd given it up because of a divorce - check all posts made by her for exact clarification on this.

Has she gone back to it?

I'm sure some businesses must have (there's got to be 1 surely) made some money using this program but I've steered well clear given the fixed running costs plus commission charged.

Last time they called I said I'd do it if they only charged commission. Cue long silence and no more calls from them since.

Hi Guys :) Sorry to bust into your thread but I think I've also been done up by edirectory/myfaveshop/myshoppingbank/next-years-business-name..

I joined them about 3 months ago after pretty much all of the cold call scenario's you have all listed (I had only been online about 4 months and was slightly naive to it all). Checked them out, figured they might work out, paid them and voila have since had zero orders, even over christmas.. Even though I was told there was huge monthly search volumes for men's health supplements etc...

They changed their name from myfaveshop to myshoppingbank on the sly during my join up and only told me after they had actually done it (much to my confusion). And it appears they charge differing rates to everyone judging by the posts I've read on other forums.

On more digging I found that I too had been "mugged off" and I've not heard of anyone genuinely doing well through them. If there are, please post. And no shill posting please...

And as for the "lesleyk" post, that just about sums up their effort of defence to what they're doing to web businesses trying to start/earn a living...

I could be proved wrong but feel I'm gonna wait a long time for it... I hope my experience helps others.

I'm done...
Cheers Jamie

LOL...so true, but what a sad indictment of life. I would like to think that really I am just an optimist until proven wrong....of course, in this case I would lovvvveeee to hear from lesleyk who seems to have gone strangely quiet...surprisingly :)

Yes Andy that saying is a bit cynical I agree. At least you have now eliminated yourself from the my shopping bank potential employee list on here!

Just thought I'd make a post here as I've just been contacted by shoppingbank.com , I was pretty busy at the time so I've asked them to phone me back tomorrow.

Just thought I'd do my due diligence before they phone me back... The site looks ok, the email they've sent me in the meantime looks impressive with some big names on it... Although they do state they have so many million pages listed in google, and I only saw 26k when I searched...

Then I find these forums, and am shocked to see they were formerly eDirectory! I actually got suckered in by these guys first time around, once my contract was up I ran a mile, as they were asking for several hundred pounds to renew my subscription. I turned them down, and the price went down , but I still wasn't interested. I think I'd had maybe 6 orders in the time I was with them. I put it down to never managing to get to the bottom of updating my inventory with them automatically (as you'll all know, it takes a lot of work to list all your products on a new site such as this).

Anyway, so it seems they have rebranded and have come back to me as a past customer, trying to get me to sign up again! Lets see if they find this post before phoning me back tomorrow. Incidentally, I didn't get onto the subject of cost when they phoned otherwise the pricing structure might have started to ring some bells.

Just out of interest: My account manager at eDirectory was called "Lesley", although her surname was Burton not beginning with "k", although someone had mentioned a divorce earlier on?

Basically I felt fooled by these guys, I didn't get the results I wanted with the small selection of products I had on these, but I did get SOME orders. Certainly not worth the time and effort I put into it.

There's a simple equasion you can use to filter out some of the crap sites like this:

A) Have you heard of them before?
B) Have you, or a friend ever bought anything from them before?
C) Is it free to list your products, with the site only taking a commission when something sells?

If the answer to all the above is "NO" then just walk away. If a site charges you to list your products, and ties you into a contract for 12 months or whatever it's not worth it. If they're any good, they'll make far more money off a commission on each sale.

That's enough rambling for today.

I stupidly signed up with them two years ago after a really hard, pushy sell where they said their clients were Autotrader etc.

I then asked for my money back, when I read forums about how bad they were, which they should have entitled me to, as a cooling off period.

They assured me I would get lots of sales, and 6 months into it I have 3 sales, yes 3 sales, that works out to one sale every 2 months and yet I paid almost £500 to sign up (not including the commission!)

Basically they are absolutely USELESS. Please don't sign up with them, I promise you, it is a waste of time!!!

Regards

Hi, I signed up with this Company last September after receiving a phone call asking me if I required extra sales on my website and they could be my answer as they were part of the GMTV shopping website and owned by Saatchi & Saatchi, so I thought this may be a good idea. I paid them £450 + VAT for 20 products per time to be listed and a link to my website + 10% commission on any sales. I have received one order via them for £20 and no other enquiries. I try to change the items periodically to help sales, but i do not think many people actually purchase from this site and they do nothing to help advertise your site or push your sales. I have not heard from them since. Once they have your money they do not care how well you do as they have been paid. My contract is up in September with them and I will certainly not be renewing it. I am really dissapointed with their service as I expected more from them. They did not let me know also that they were changing their name unitl after they had done it!

I would like to say thank you to everybody who took the time to write about their experiences with the Shopping Bank. I think I’ve just had a lucky escape! They have been doing the hard sell on me for a couple of days now, they wanted to charge me £750 to list 50 products. I was almost convinced and ready to hand over my money on Monday, until I read the postings in this forum.

No, they are still ShoppingBank, they did tell me that they were formerly edirectory as if that was a badge of honour!
They haven't changed their sales pitch either, said all the things the previous posters mentioned e.g. how much they liked my products, how they had a vacant retailer slot to fill asap, were down to 3 contenders for that slot etc. etc.!

I got the call today starting off with name dropping GMTV and then The Independant before requiring 30 minutes of my time in front of a pc to demonstrate, before going into SEO etc to which I asked them if they were trying to sell SEO

I also got the "we have selected 3" and "our current supplier has let our customers down" but the site of mine they mentioned is actually incomplete (testing a new skin for another site) and I hadn't even loaded a title graphic. This raised alarm bells to me as I would just stroll on by if I encountered an unfinished site.

Oh and the other thing that screamed out was the GMTV mention as there is no way they could feature my products on tv

I sell sex toys!

ah well could be a fun exercise when they ring back

note to all telemarketers please research what you are looking at properly before calling me!

Concur with all the negative comments. Unfortunately I didn't research as much as I should have done, before sigining!

I am not normally the gullible type so beware.

They do not do what they say they will do, they miss deadlines, and when requesting return of my payment due to their not fulfilling their side of the deal, they offered me a 3 month extension, of what I am not sure!

Eventually our products did go live, we have had 2 sales in 4 months, compared to several thousand through other on line portals and our own website.

Definitely DO NOT sign up no matter how little cash they ask you pay up front... you will never get it back, and you will waste so much time chasing them....

Oh this is all so familiar.
I now tend to "switch off" when cold called by company's offering SEO, advertising etc. especially when they start off with "oh we came across your site ,loved it and thought it would be a perfect fit...for our latest rip off effort". Well they maybe don't say the last bit but I know where they're coming from.
I too have been called by these shoppingbank jokers.
I didn't answer the call but they left a voicemail banging on about GMTV etc. I thought yeah right they are going to get my products on the tele :D
Anyway the absolute clincher for me was the email they sent. As soon as a company like this says " you must ring me before 3pm tomorrow to take advantage of this opportunity" every alarm bell in my head rings. Why? Why? Why? should I have to contact them before any deadline.....I'll tell you why, it's called high pressure selling. Not for me. Avoid at all costs(and pretty bloody big costs they are !!)
take care,
Anthony
