My sales have tanked - world cup?

Having made steady decent (month on month) sales growth over the past 18 months all of a sudden (past 7-10 days) my sales have suffered severely.

Now I realise this is totally unscientific, but has anyone else selling online (Ebay, Amazon, via their own website) seen sales drop markedly over the past 7-10 days?

World Cup effect?

Sunny weather effect?

General time of year effect (mid June lull?)

Are you selling Roy Hodgson masks?

No, rather Spain FIFA 2014 & England FIFA 2014 T shirts ;-)

Incidentally does anyone else think we'd be better off with a manager who doesn't have look of someone who shops at B&Q only on Wednesdays (& can pronounce Rs. It must be hard to take any instructions seriously when the person giving them sounds like Elmer Fud).

Weather always has an effect. For us, we notice a very large drop in trade (nearly 40%) towards the end of the month of July, specifically when the kids go on Summer holidays. World cup has not had a significant impact but we have had a small drop. Biggest we have seen was for the Olympics!

I made a similar post.

since the beginning of the world cup, I had 1 enquiry. As soon as England are confirmed out of the World cup, my enquiries picked up a little (still early days). I have just had a look at web traffic and it was broadly the same as this time last month.

We have the same trading pattern as last year. 30% lower sales than the month of May but still a good chunk up on last year (we're still a fairly new business so it isn't too much of a challenge to put a decent percentage on LY).

Weather and sport (specifically football it seems) definitely gives people something else to spend cash on.

Well, I've only been trading about 16 months, so haven't too much historic data to rely on to pick out monthly trends....but I've never experienced such an alarming dropoff in sales as over the past 7-10 days.

Sales are a bit perkier today (though they're not back where they need to be), so maybe it was just all the moons aligning in a negative way....I blame the solstice & those Druids (I should be selling white sheets)
