My challenge for 2011 - Please support me!

That link was after i researched the term i was told they thought it could be. I didn't just type symptoms in the net and assume thats it. I would never do that, it always leads to 'death'.

Runny nose = death
sore throat = death
bad finger = death

Ok - well gone luck on Monday - here's hoping it isnt too bad and a bit of rest will sort it out.

I remember well the pain of shin splints when I used to run marathons.

It was after recovering from them I started a regime of cold showering and cold water baths after every run.

Never had a problem with them again.

Yes, i have been told 'ice baths' would be great for me, however telling someone to have an ice bath and actually doing it yourself are very different. I had one, never again :)

A compromise is to shower your lower legs and feets in cold water for about 10 minutes after every run if you cant face cold baths.

It's worth it - it definately works - I never had a problem again while training and running.

yes i have thought about that, and i think i will start and run on the national cycle route. Its still firm ground but not concrete. I WILL make the miles up for this time off though, even if i have to walk it.

After seeing a specialist, it is worse than expected and i have to stop with my challenge. I have to rest for 3 months, no exercise.

For those of you who were following my challenge i'm sorry. I did run the distances in my signature, even though it may not have been organised the best.

Thanks for following me, those of you who have...

A few thousand from businesses and about £90 from the public.

I was wondering if i could get you opinions on my challenge about what i am going to propose. The challenge was to run half a marathon everyday for a year in 2011. Due to my injury i have to take time out as the heavy impact was affecting the structure of my feet. I was wondering if moving to a cycle would help me finish my challenge? The specialist said that this would be ok after 2 weeks to cycle and would be better as there is less impact.

So would this be a good alternative to quitting for the people who have sponsored? Also it wouldn't be a complete failure when i finish. I would also make up the miles i have missed (cycling though). I could also get some extra media coverage on the injury angle but determined to finish (good for businesses who sponsor).

I am not asking how well i have done to publicise this challenge or whether you believe i am doing the challenge at all, i am asking a question regarding whether this change would make a huge difference.

I would really appreciate your honest advice. Thanks

Jason, this was a pipe dream from start to finish.

To complete this challenge you would have to have been superhuman.

It was badly thought out, and even worse excuted.

365 half marathons in a 12 month period is absurd.

I doubt even a profesional sports person at their peak could have completed this.

You had no structure in place, the money raised for the enormity of what you had stated you would do was incredibly small.

You have lost all credibilty I'm afraid, and rather than sit back and put a proper plan of action in place for maybe later in the year you have jumped in again with a cycling idea.

Give whatever money you have raised to charity, and if you are considering doing something like this again, set REALISTIC GOALS, then approach some big estatblished charities were you can get decent exposure.

I agree it was badly arranged but now i want to complete the challenge if i can, thats why i have asked about the cycling, as it would be a great personal achievement.

As for your theory about it not being possible then read this http://edition.cnn.com/2011/SPORT/02/05/marathon.record.engels.365/index.html - A far greater physical challenge, at a much older age!

It would be wise to just stop and if i want to do something then plan thoroughly, but now i have started and am 3 months in, i want to try and make the most of it, or it is over 1,000 miles wasted.

So as stated when i made the post 'please do not question the challenge or explain it was not thought out properly' and please answer the question i posted! Would it be a complete failure if i changed from running to cycling to complete the challenge due to injury?

Thanks

I've bitten my tongue on this for quite some time.

You admit it was badly run from the off, despite numerous people trying to help you and as I recall, OWG put alot of effort in, you plodded along thinking it would all work out. If its capable or not, its a business forum and you were getting business advise that you didnt like (Think sponsors and 'what ifs'). Lots of footwork was needed BEFORE you ran, seemingly ignored. Basics such as an updated website, mile verification, press releases etc etc - All far more worthwhile than a start date.

Next, you are ment to be commited and run one a day - Fail, you missed out on a few for god knows what reason, so there goes your whole '1 a day' tagline that this event was based around, lost credibility. But atleast you were honest about it, its not like you could prove you were actually running (Again, lost credibility).

Many people mentioned what happens if you are injured, you had this notion it would never happen, low and behold you become injured. This event has been one **** up after another and to try and salvage this shoddy attempt, you now mention finishing it on a bike.

I'm sorry Jase, you were told time and time again to put the effort in and everytime you put your fingers in your ears - This is a BUSINESS site, not a runners club and I cant quite figure out why this topic was thrown into the Charity section many moons ago.

Why not, rather than cry 'Please dont say anything bad about me' in every post, actually take some advice onboard - I mean, enough of us have commented so surely the numbers mean atleast one of us is right, or do you really think you are 'Superhuman'?

You need to give up - Simple. Start again AFTER doing your homework, I dont mean in 1 weeks time as quite frankly, I think you'll need neigh-on 6 months to organise it all. Then what? Start SMALL, a full marathon once a week for a month or whatever, after having done your work people should be interested and your credibility will rise, then further down the line do the 365 challenge.

Would you want to donate to me? I'm Joe Bloggs, I'm going to climb everest, naked, in a canoe, every day for the rest of my life. Thats nearly as much of a risk as you and your challenge, noone knows you nor what you are capable of - Enstill trust in potential donators.

I have followed this from the start and was very serious about donating, until the snowball began to roll.

So instead of keep trying to make this work...STOP, mark it down as experience and learn from it. Get fit again, and start planning now for 2012, maybe not the same challenge but something to push my boundaries. So thorough planning will help me gain credibility again and maybe support/sponsorship. Get every detail planned from start to finish and track every mile for verification.

I do appreciate your advice and am going to act on it now. The reason i always say, answer my question and dont tell me the challenge is impossible' is because it is physically possible, see the link in my last post, yet i was always told no one can run that, you have to be superhuman, but it has been proved that running double that a day is possible.

I wanted to test myself again next year after this challenge with cycling the whole national cycle route as that is 10,000 miles and it is having heavy investment and publicity recently to get people cycling. Possibly plan for that NOW and get things thoroughly draw out...

What do you think? I do want to do something for that individual charity as they have supported my dad who suffers with Multiple Sclerosis tremendously.

It is really admirable that you want to give back Jason, I for one respect it, as I suspect many of the other posters here do.

I think that we were all disappointed by the failure but not surprised.

As I suggested in a previous post, if you want to raise serious money then you need to plan this properly.

Rather than keep coming on here asking for advice, why not take some that has already been suggested.

Good luck with whatever you have planned next.

I think your heart is in the right place, but your business logic is very questionable.

I do appreciate everyones advice and who has followed this thread. I will stop as even if i do run them all it is debatable as i cannot 'prove' it. I will plan something for next year but start now, and get every little detail in place. I will use this thread and the advice given as a solid grounding for my next challenge. Hopefully you will see the next challenge has been well though out and extremely well executed.

Thanks

I am sorry but at present you loose credability every time you post, all your threads seem to be looking for get rich quick schemes, or idolising the people that are trying, like everything you have to put in the hard work before reaping the rewards and you don't seem to want to do that.

Completing these challanges should be a long term goal not a 6 month assumption, these should come off the back off alot of training a lot of organising, and alot of external support, start with something small and simple, then build up over 5 years to do a big project by which time you will be in better physical shape, have the planning experience and contacts.

But trying to achieve the same failing in 6 months is just daft IMO

Im genuinely sorry to hear youve had to give up on the challenge.

However, I think it's true to say youve not taken a single bit of advice offered here in 3 months.

I have to question why?

As for cycling the 13 miles, Jason stop now please, before you make yourself a complete laughing stock. My wife, who is not a young woman, cycles 14 miles 4 days a week - 7 mile return journey. She could easily do it 7 days a week without breaking a sweat.

I wont repeat the excellent advice youve been given above, but I hope this time, you take it.
