Hi everyone,

Around two weeks ago I decided to apply for BBC's Dragons Den to ask for an investment for a business idea that I had when I was 13 years of age. For the past 4 years I have been trying to make that idea into reality and I have put quite a bit of money into the whole business concept.

Anyway let me get to the point, when you apply for Dragons Den it allows you to put your DOB from the year 1990 and downwards because you have to be over 18 to apply. However I thought I would give it a shot at applying just to see if the producers would find any interest and whether the business would be Dragons Den worthy.

Out of thousands of applications the producers got in touch and I filled in all the necessary applications. So everything was going smoothly.

Then they asked for ID as this was the last step before filming. Obviously they found out yesterday I was 17 years old. Yesterday the producer gave me a ring and said that she was very dissapointed not to have me on the show. I am dissapointed aswell but I did know that I would not make it on the show because of my age.

I am still looking for an investor and I have uploaded the original pitch for the show on youtube. Sorry its a bit rubbish I could not read off the screen so I was adding a few words that I shouldnt have. But its better to be original I think. I think it was in the space of an hour when I thought I will apply to the show then sent it off.

Feel free to look at my pitch on youtube

or just type in City Bubble UK.

Thank you everyone

I actually quite like that idea. There is an issue with distracting other motorists (I dont think you would distract drivers anymore than anything else right next to roads but I would address it anyway) and when giving projected turnover figures you need to justify how you reached them as the video makes it look like you kinda pulled them out of the sky.

I think its a brilliant idea and I completely agree advertising in the local paper costs an absolute fortune. At least with the car like you say you can take it to the places where your market is likely to be found.

Agree with Sirearl take an adult on with you. You can still do your pitch, I remember seeing a little boy on there with his dad he was about 9 I think and they wanted sponsor money for some kind of motor racing.

Good Luck

Hi Earl,

Yeah I sent the ID of me and also sent the ID of my dad aswell.

But BBC regulations could not allow an application to be transferred.

Hi David,

Thank you, well the concept is if we place the vehicle in the city center the images would be digital video on the tv screens once on the road they would stay still and be digital images.

I can see what you mean. The video was only meant to be 3minutes long I initally did put how i got the numbers in but had to take it out as the video was too long. I got the figures through market research and seeing what businesses would be interested in this cleaner way of advertising. The figures are from out of 14 adverts spaces we manage to sell 6 spaces out of the 14 a week.

Hi Taylor thank you for the kind words :) Yeah I mean each car will travel 300miles a week.

Thank You. :)

well done for taking the time to put a pitch together and applying! and getting that far! at 17 thats a great achievement

i'm pretty sure a van with an LCD screen drove past me the other day and the screen was huge, so maybe you'd need a bigger advertising screen than the one you are offering

however, being able to drive the advertisement next to large crowd gatherings is a great idea

good luck to you in the future and i'll look out for you on the den in the future!

Yes best of luck to you. I remeber a short while after i failed misserably at the second stage of the apprentice interviews, i had a email from the BBC Drangons den scouts. They actually scour the web for people aswell. They probably dont do that so much for people with generic business idea, but i had an invention listed on a certain website from ages ago, and one of their guys must have found me there...Anyway i couldnt go because at the time my patent had already lapsed, so, no go for me on that.

You vid pitch is not bad, good luck...

Hi
Its a great concept. I love the car bubble idea it's sure to catch my attention. You can try again with a business partner that is over 18yrs best bet is to ask your parents. Then pitch the idea together at dragons den.

For the time being you can submit your idea at Shelllivewire they run montly idea awards for £1000. Other alternative routes for small awards would be to enter business plan competitions etc

There are other investor seeking services like angels den http://www.angelsden.co.uk/ etc

Wish u the very best. :)

Hi.
Firstly, good pitch. It's good to see a 17 year old with some brains and communication skills.
Secondly, I think you have a very good idea there. One thing puzzles me though, if you knew you had to be 18 to go on the show, then why didn't you wait until you turned 18 to apply? If you've waited 4 years already to move your idea forward, surely you could have waited a little longer?

The trouble now with having your video on youtube is you're going to attract a lot of copycats, that is inevitible anyway. So you really shouldn't hang around any longer with this. Couldn't you make your dad an equal partner for now and re-apply for Dragon's Den?

If not, you can always approach Venture Capitalists privately, or even the Dragon's privately if you so wished.

Good luck with it.

Hi Florenceij, thank you for the advice I do appreciate it everyone here is pretty great I have to admit :D

SRD thank you for the kind words, yeah I know what you mean I should have waited a bit longer, but I just had it go through my brain that I should apply for some reason and within an hour I had sent the video off. (It was the same day I recieved the patent details)

I have just spoken to the BBC about applying again so I have decided to apply under my dad's name again and we shall see how it goes. :)

Oh I know about the whole issue about youtube I will be taking the video off within 24 hours it was just mainly to get some views about what people thought. I have an international patent which covers the whole aspect of the business. I am actually a college student and I have exams coming up in 3 weeks so contacting VC would take too long. I am in talks with an individual within London who is looking to buy my online business for the investment that I need. So If i can get that cleared within 3 weeks I can have the vehicles within the UK within 8 weeks.

Hi FAB thank you for the feedback :)

Thank you everyone :)

PS: The video will only stay on youtube for another 3 hours.

Thank you for all your help and feedback. :D

Good luck with your venture, great to see young talent getting on with the job at hand...

You may wish to PM me for a private chat about this project as I have already developed the groundwork for what is a parallel system although I am unsure as to how parallel as the Moo Tube video had already been removed by the time I first read this. I therefore couldn't compare.

My system will have LCD units (any size) with fixed IP 3.5G comms on a 12V supply so CE exepmt and ROHS compliant, coupled with a Google API the prototypes are already built and suppliers online for the full run. The device can drive any media as the media power supply would be likely independent and as our device low voltage fully mobile, where the wireless connectivity is via a carrier agreement with a UK network and has full roaming capability for global expansion.

I do hope to hear from you, either way though best of luck!
