Hi,

I have been developing the L.E.D flashing swimming goggles for the past 6 years, in fact it has taken me so long that during the process I now have a range of initiative swimming products.

Today my stock arrived and I listed my products on my website.

I have already had 3 customers and all 3 bought more then 1 item:)

I am so elated.

Also I would like to say a BIG "Thank You", to the Members of the Business Forum who have offered me so much help, advice and their expertise.
Anything I needed to know I just posted a question and received the answer shortly after.

Dave you are in need of a good SEO workover on the site.

Don't miss the boat.:)

Have you got a patent?

Earl

I have granted patents and pending patents, so no problems there;)

I thought that my SEO was ok.....when I type in Gogglows or flashing swimming goggles or led dive gems....etc...etc....my website is top of Google:|

Sorry Dave but those terms have no search volume you need to be up there for "swimming goggles" or closely related.

Or try PPC route should not be to expensive.

Although if you can build the brand by other means?

Very good product, would sell millions in Spanish and French coastal resorts. We always buy something to play with in the pool. Also are you on Ebay yet?

Your website looks good. Nice and clean.

If you haven't already
Do a little Adwords for yourself. Just easy key words and phrases like swimming equipment, pool fun or whatever.
It might be worth getting some advice on how to identify what people search.

.

Good idea. Sell the individual country license rights to distribute/sell your products for each of the European holiday destinations. You will generate serious revenue, increase sales and grab the market share before someone else produces something similar. Good luck.:)

Yes you are right Earl:redface:

I noticed that my website is not receiving as many unique vistors as I was hoping for.

This is something I need to address fast.

Once again Earl you are on the money;)

I just can't get this metal image of you driving around on your jetski wearing illuminated armbands and ding a ling sitting behind you wearing the flashing goggles shouting faster faster....

Dave.

Congratulations on your initial sales.

As a matter of interest with the patents, did you wait to have your UK patent granted before you started selling them? I assume the patents you have pending on the international ones, so I assume that you will see how they sell here in the UK before you decide to run with them also.

How many people type in flashing swimming goggles or led dive gems to google? I never thought something like this would exist and the majority of the world won't so they won't search. When I just typed in swimming goggles, you didn't pop up til page 8. If you could be top of google for swimming goggles as has been stated, you'd suddenly start selling loads of them.

Congratulations Dave!

A few thoughts - on the home page, it's not clear that your products have educational/instructional value, my first thought was 'it's just a toy/a gimmick'. Maybe you should highlight on the homepage that the products can be used to encourage water confidence, as that will help convert parents who see the play value, but still need convincing.

Secondly, with the goggles, I think you need to be explicit that the lights do not damage children's eyes - as parents we're constantly telling children not to shine LED torches in their eyes, so my initial concern was 'is it safe'?

I know after 6 years you will have considered this, but the baby swimming market is huge so a floating version of the gems would be a massive hit in these classes, as babies are fascinated by lights - and could be sold on to the parents.

Get yourself on to Amazon - as the sole seller of the item you'll be able to set your price in such a way that you can still make a profit despite Amazon's high fees.

Well done and all the best!

I can see these really taking off, I would bet my last pound that my 4yo would want a pair. But they also seem something that could easily be ripped off by the chinese for example. Have you approached any large retailers??

To be honest they are very difficult to make and in fact each Goggle is hand assembled (Over the 6 years we tried different methods of production however, the hand assembling is the only successful method)

I have had a lot of UK and European retailers contact me but I wanted to keep control so I selected Europes largest swim specilist for an exclusive with myself for all of Europe so I will be looking for exclusive partners in Canada, USA and Australia etc....

I wasn't looking at the big picture and must of had blinkers on (please pardon the pun:p)

All good points thank you, I was also thinking of opening an ebay shop.
As for the lights in the users eyes, I have explained this on the goggle page and "our story" page but maybe I should make this point clearer on the home page.

Congratulations.

Brilliant example of perseverance - how many would have given up long ago?

Are you sending samples for review by magazines/bloggers? Could be a good way to get the buzz going.

Thank you for your kind comments and a member from this forum has written me an excellent Press Release which I will send out ASAP with some goggle samples;)

Does anyone have some suggestions where best to send them to?

Try Daisy Bridgewater who writes the 'Children's Notebook' column in the Saturday Telegraph Magazine. It's the type of product she would feature (she featured my bookcase last month). I contacted her through Twitter, but if you want to send on spec, I'm sure something marked for her attention at the offices of the Telegraph Magazine would reach her. She has three boys - aged approx. 9, 7 and 5.

Firstly, great job persevering and getting a genuine new product through production, to market.

I like the diving coins/gems, but I have to admit, I don't understand the point of the goggles. When I wear them, what happens?

The goggles are for junior swimmers (aged 5 -14) and can be used as standard non-illuminated goggle for swimming lessons or as fancy flashing Goggle to encourage younger swimmers to place their face into the water, as well as a swimming goggle for children of all abilities to have lots of fun and games.

On my website I have listed many game suggestions to be played while wearing the Goggles.

Yeah I saw them, but it wasn't clear really what the wearer sees... a bunch of lights shining in your eyes seems a bit odd so I assume it's more peripheral?

The goggles include a patented light shield so the users do not see any LED light from their goggles but everyone else in the swimming pool will see them.

So for younger children they can see the LED lights in the reflection of the water or if they hold their hand infront of their face they can see the illuminations projected on their hands.

For the older kids it is all about "look at me", as they will love the attention:p

When my daughter was testing the prototypes in the local swimming pool within a few minutes, she had a large gathering of children around her. The other children kept asking her to switch on the lights. Even parents from outside the pool area could see the goggles flashing.
