Multiple phone lines

Hi

I currently run a web business and I am in the process of setting up another one.

For the business I am currently running as well as taking online orders I also take phone orders, and would like to do the same for the new business.

I have heard there is a phone system out there where you can have multiple numbers going to the same phone line, but more importantly when the phone rings and you answer it a recorded voice tells you which business they are calling about. This would be really handy because it would mean we didn't have to shell out on extra phone lines and it would also be good for customer service.

Does anyone know the name of such systems, the cost, the names of any companies, or has anyone experianced this sort of system?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Let me explain.....

1st: this is called VOIP (voice over IP), it goes threw your internet line.
many companies supply it but by far the best it Voipfone, CJD (the owner) is a member here.

2nd:i presume you are talking about pbx (a virtual switchboard (press 1 for sales, 2 for blah, press 3 to leve a message.) CJD also does this.
You cal use your normal computer for this or have it forwarded to your phone line.

Ask CJD.

Good LUck

paul what do you offer?
A fully managed multi media contact centre solution voice, email, chat etc. Run on a carrier grade platform. As previously stated, I am useless at explaining this in writing (anyone know a good copy writer?) give me a call in the morning and I can show it to you.

You could, I suppose, use a recorded message to tell you which number is being called. Inefficient use of resouces, I'd say. Much easier and more efficient to have a piece of hardware which is a VoIP switchboard, can be done on a single IP handset or a PC on your local network or standalone PC. No need for the huge equipment of yesteryear.

It's about using your broadband connection for your telecomms rather than relying upon the Plain Old Telephone Service. The same piece of wire, different "layers" of it.

Paul, please use the board default font and font size. Shouting and screaming detracts from your message rather than emphasising it. Have you never wondered why nobody else does it? Do you really believe you are the only one on the planet clever enough to think of it?

That's simple enough - we have many small businesses set up the same way.

You need a broadband connection, a telephone number and a virtual telephone extension from our virtual PBX for each business, plus one telephone.

You set set all the extensions to call the single telephone and use the included feature of the extensions called Line Presentation to display the name of the company being called (so that you can answer the phone with abc ltd or xyz plc etc).

Each telephone number costs £1.99 per month and an extension is £0.99 pm. No contract and no set-up fees.

    Info here:

Give us a call on 020 7043 5555 if you need to talk it through with someone.

BT have a thing where it can give a different ring.

I think it is called line present.

They give you a different number that goes with it.

Pretty cheap set up since the line rental is already paid.

Now you could combine this with voipfone and their forwarding and other features!

Without using a softphone and without buying a hard voip phone or having issues with voip!

    Hi
You don't need voip. this can be done over your existing line. What you need is 2 non geographic phone numbers which are both pointed to your lanline. The recorded message you mentioned is a call whisper. You could have one saying "call on the sales line" and the other saying "call on the accounts line" etc. You can then differentiate between calls and put the right "hat" on when answering. I use a company for that myself and they're called switchboardfree. There are quite a few providers out there so i would say have a search for virtual switchboard. The majority of companies charge for this type of servicec. some charge a litle and others can be quite extortionate. Obviously keeping costs down is key to any new venture. The company i use doesnt charge anything to use their service. I was sceptical about this at first but i've been using them for ages now and i havent had to pay a penny for the numebrs or any of the calls.
