Moving office - Can i keep my phone number?

Yes, i face the joys of moving the business premesis.

We have a BT business phone line and if possible i'd like to be able to keep the phone number when we move for obvious reasons. It's a different area code though... is there any way around this at all?

Yes, you get Call Redirection onto the telephone number. You can I think get it automatically forwarded on, but if that's not possible because you're out of area you can at least keep the number and have one of those "the number that you are calling has been changed to ???????) messages. Which although not perfect should be a safety net.

Do you have a VOIP provider and phone system ?
If so, it does not matter where in the world you are you can have the same number

If your have a standard BT line then i dont think you can take it with you.

Good idea Boxby, that could well be the best solution. At least then if we do have to change telephone numbers we can gradually fade out the old number without losing custom in the short term.

If you have a BT number - or a few others - you can port it to a good VoIP provider. Make sure they are members of ITSPA tho'; so you know the number is safe.

I imagine you can get it redirected! You could also get an 0845 number which covers your old number!

You can indeed keep your business number, even if you move outside the local exchange.
