Hi guys

Im brand new to the forum and decided to join after thinking long and hard about my personal circumstances, my life and what exactly I want to do and what will make me happy. I'm here because I see myself starting my own business and Im basically looking for some advice from more experienced members and even those who have been in my position and done it for themselves!

Basically, I'm 23 years old, I'm really entrepreneurial in nature and have already had a few small business ideas which I'm still mulling over. I hate working for an employer and definitely don't feel fulfilled... people have even said I'll never be happy until I work for myself. I have only recently started a new job but although the money is slightly better, the work is tough but repetitive and unrewarding. I am still wanting to start a business up but I have hardly any capital to do so... I've always been independent and am living in my own place so a lot of my money gets swallowed by bills!

What would your advice be to me? I have the ideas, the ambition, the motivation, a hard working nature, and a drive to make myself successful... what should I do with the ideas I have and how do I make them a reality on a shoestring?

Thanks , Andy

Without wanting to give to much away, my ideas are centered around:

A different type of home-made beverage

An online 'advisory-style' business which would be small enough to work on during my spare time

A specific type of entertainment event to play at venues which would utilise the talent of a friend - also possible to run in my spare time

A more complex business idea concerning maintenance and repairs of businesses/homes for a range of clients - would require capital to start and a lot of time

I realise the ideas above are not original, completely fresh ideas but the make-up of them and the way they would be run I feel do have a difference to other ideas already out there... basically I'm looking at advice from a general point of view to starting a business, rather than how to start any of the individual ideas

I went into business with my friend and ex collegue back in april after 12 months of him saying he needed my input and wanted me to join him.

I have spent the lat 5 years getting made redundant and basically having to bow to the pressure from above even when my ideas have made things better, I have lost many of my ideas to other companies one of which took my idea and has instigated it nationally and never even said thankyou.

This move was scary as I have a mortgage and bills and I would be lieing to you if I said it hasnt been really hard, I do have arrears and some bills have nopt been paid in full yet but through it all I am finally seeing the rewards and for the first time in my life I can see a future and I am not simply living day to day.

I am 32 and i wish I had done it earlier but taking that leap was incredibly difficult as every small thing that was negative became an excuse not to do it.

I can safely say since I joined my friend the business has doubled in size and we are growing much faster than I or my friend ever imagined... My advice is do it whilst you are young, if it turns out not to be for you you still have time to recover.

Good luck:D

I understand your situation with bills etc, you could try to maybe downsize, rent a smaller place or sell and buy a smaller place to reduce overheads??

Otherwise, you are going to have to work your nuts off, get a weekend job to save a little extra for the business... whatever it takes... but I promise you 100000% ... because you know you are saving to build a business, the second job wont feel a chore or a strain... you will clearly begin to see a vision becoming a reality, as at this stage what you need is capital.

Succeeding in earning that extra capital will give you unlimited belief in then investing that money in a business idea and really giving your all in making it work.

Just do it, seriously.. dont stop, go for it today, your age is spot on to do this.

Best wishes.
