What's the most suitable accounting software for E-commerce?

also how would i account for sales? if the software didn't intergrate with the commerce software would i have to manually enter each transaction into the accounts software or could i just put the total sales in for each day, for example if i had 10 transactions for £20 would i have to enter £20 10 times for each customer or could i just put "thursday august 5th, sales £200" any help would be appreciated.

Look at one of the online offerings, which will have a facility to import your Paypal or other statements. I'm not aware of any conventional programs that does allow import of statements at the moment, without an add-on program. Xero, Accounts Portal, KashFlow all do, as will the others.

If you go desktop, then all you have to do is enter the daily totals, and keep your e-commerce statements to back up the entry.

Thanks for answering, Kashflow looks good from their website, as do quickbooks and sage instant, i'll probably go down the route of entering the daily totals, i just wanted to know if this was acceptable from an accounting point of view. thanks again :)

Kashflow is, indeed a great accounts system, however, it does not manage stock that well.

If you are happy with your ecommerce software handling stock (if that is important to you) then KF is great!

if you are looking for a system that specialises mostly in ecommerce then you will probably be interested in Contraccounts (contraccounts.com), as it has an API (well multiple api's) that allow integration into your ecommerce store providing you with on the fly bookkeeping and accounting

Thats what shops do. just ensure all sales are recorded and available to HMRC be it on the e-commerce or accounting software
