How many of you use mobile email?

Which is the most popular and why? Blackberry, Windows Smartphone, Symbian device?

...and do you use your own hosted mail server?

Just trying to gauge if this is a growth area for SME's
 
At the moment we use Blackberry 8300s (I think? the summer 2007 model) and use t-mobile's blackberry service but will be switching to iPhones and a direct connection to our mailserver at renewal time :)

Using the Blackberry Bold at the moment, went for it over the Storm and iPhone, as I don't really get on with touch screens

Use Ipod Touch when in a Wifi area, or just my normal phone.

I saw somewhere in the trends of next year, for email only devices. Supposedly they're big in America, like Blackberry's but thinner and handle emails only.

What sort of problems are you having? I must admit I got caught out at first when setting it up due to it's requirement of having Secure SSL & a valid certificate on the mail server.

I'd definitely recommend the iPhone.

Hiya,
I used to connect via HTTP using Outlook Web Access on a Windows Mobile device, but have just switched to a Symbian Nokia using IMAP - auto email pickup etc. It's not fast, but it keeps me in touch.

I would say hands down iphone is the best option. It works really well. i have 3 mail accounts set up on it. dream to use. Doddle to set up. I would go for that!

We've got iPhone. I thought long and hard about the Blackberry Storm but the Vodafone signal in our area is pants.

I have to say iPhone is a sweet device and is a pleasure to use. The internet browser is awesome. Why am I saying that? Well it means I can check things (we do webdevelopment) when I'm out on the road without having to bootup the laptop and then shut it down. Very nice and convenient for a quick look-see.

Email is pretty good too.

10/10 for iPhone 3G

Sorted it now but I still can't get Entourage mailboxes to automatically synch via mobileme with the iphone.

WM Smartphones & Exchange 2007 here. Currently 15 handsets, which for now are HTC Tytn II's & will be upgraded to HTC Touch Pro when T-Mobile pull their fingers out & stop saying they're "testing"

Not a moments trouble, lightning fast & sure as hell beats the Blackberry spaghetti. I've worked with Blackberries since they first came out & now hate them with a passion compared to Windows Mobile...all the functionality, none of the hassle...not often you can say that about MS!

Interestingly, we work with a large number of big brands (Lufthansa, MyTravel & RBS to name but a few) & there is a drift away from Blackberry. The most notable one is Lufthansa who we demo'd to 6 months ago & who are going fully WM this year with our help.

I have to say, although I loved what Windows Mobile could do, especially if you use Outlook a lot, I found the the HTC Tyntn very bulky and as an everyday phone it was too much hassle.

Another vote for the iPhone here.

XDAs are pretty good if you like windows and Blackberrys are good too.

The G1 is too plasticky and ugly for it to even matter if it is any good surely?

I use my iPod Touch - Saves shedding out for a PDA, and is entertaining at the same time =]

AND NO CONTRACTS/RECURRING FEES!

I use A T-Mobile MDA III (Windows Mobile). Use IMAP for e-mail and connect back to a desknow server (www.desknow.com). This is a lot cheaper that using Exchange if you have a smaller number of users (about £100.00 for 5 users - one off cost). I also use SyncML to syncrhonise calendars and tasks with the mobile device. I use T-mobiles 3G data service at £7.50 per month ontop of my normal business mobile contract.

I've had my iphone for a week now and to be honest technology doesn't excite me that much, but I really impressed just how good the iphone is :)

I've sorted the synching, if only mobileme would let me use my own email address then it would be almost perfect.

Can anyone comment about the ActiveSync or push email facility on iPhone. I need it to synch email (push), tasks, calender etc like it does on BES or Windows Mobile devices.

MobileMe will do push email and sync your stuff over the interweb. It was £60 a year last time I looked.

We don't use it because it's a bit distracting. MobileMe was a bit ropey when it first came out but a friend who uses it now reckons it's OK.

I think there's also web2mail, who offer push email, as well.

To use push rather than fetch on the iPhone you will need to subscribe to mobile me which costs £59 a year. This gives you push email and syncs calendar, contacts etc via the cloud. It also gives you 10gb online storage and as well as connecting to your existing email addresses you can have some @me.com email addresses too should you so wish.

Do you really need your email the moment it comes in though?

Are any of you doing anything that time sensitive?

I now have a policy of only answering official emails twice a day, if you need me urgently then phone me and I will answer and we can talk. But people who send emails and then demand a reply 20 minutes later can foxtrot oscar.

A few years ago I worked with someone who would only ever communicate via email from her Blackberry, she sent me one about someone who was stood yards away from me who needed to be spoken to, yet she didn't phone or radio me. She emailed. WTF.

You can't send via mobileme using @edwardmoss.co.uk, only @.me or there are workarounds with Gmail or Yahoo which aren't perfect.
I've turned off mail synching and have set up my email to be IMAP rather than POP3, works fine now :)

Yes was going to add that using IMAP (if your host supports it) is the way to go to sync mail between your iphone and your lappy/desktop. I set mine up with it, loving the iphone best phone I have ever owned. I would say try it out in an O2 shop first to see if you can get on with the keyboard. I was in the shop 20 minutes playing before buying just to make sure.

The only way to sync calendar (without using mobile me) is to use google calendar and get the outlook plug-in from google to sync it with google calendar and then download the google apps app from the app store.

Im confused - so its working now?

I have mine synced with multiple email addresses including @dragon-media-group.com so it can be done.

I4U,

BB Pearl - they're good but beware, they have a conventional phone keypad. Very nice kit.

BB Storm - Keep clear for now.

Depending on your needs, a Windows Mobile device may be more suited to your requirements.

Had the Pearl, nice phone but couldn't get on with it.
Just ordered half a dozen iPhones. Much easier to use, mobileme is working fine but look towards moving to exchange if you can as it has some sweet features. (Accessing intranet and remote wiping if the phone is lost or stolen and has the added advantage of the app store)

Black berry is a good phone. However, I am planning to purchase a netbook soon.

There are more mobiles in this world as compared to computers. Therefore search engines like Google are planning to market their services on mobiles too.

This will give rise to new form of search engine marketing i.e Mobile Search engine marketing.
