Can anyone recommend a mobile broadband provider?

I have my mobile phone with O2 but urgently need one of those USB mobile broadband things.

Can I go into a O2/Vodafone store and take everything home with me?

Currently on dialup using my new BT line, but the new line is also damaged and keeps disconnecting and to top it off the USB connection to my mobile phone is also not working!! :(

I would recommend t-mobile as well:
3GB Usage / month £17.02
10GB Usage / month £29.79

Cracking deal IMO and their service and network is now on a par with Vodafone in my opinion.

and yes, you can just go into a shop and walk out with one.

Thanks, my replacement mobile is coming tommorow morning (only ordered tonight!)

So have added a 3Gb data transfer bolt-on :)

Vodaphone business rates are very expensive. I would go for T Mobile next time. I use a card not a usb - dont know if one has an advantage over the other. Sometimes usb sticks can get hot in a laptop and bend - 2 of mine did and stopped working.

Btw, is this for surfing the net or reading emails only? I am trialling Openhand's SoHosted when I pick it up on Friday. Its via a friends business so I get to borrow a mobile and a few days of use for free. Its supposed to be better than a Blackberry.

Hi,

I use the 3G usb Dongle. i find their rates reasonable and not dropped connection since I signed up some Three months ago

I signed up for the 3 mobile broadband yesterday and it's actually pretty good. I can get up to 1Mb speeds in my area (turbo).

Only problem is I can't get it to work on Vista, so have to use my XP Pro laptop.

Yeah the Three one is superb, I've had mine for a few months now. It connects at 3.6Mbps everywhere I have been with it (home counties, Oxfordshire and a few other places) and on the train it is more than happy to support time-critical applications like remote access programs and VPN's. I even did a Skype video call with it while on the train and it coped admirably.

Couldn't recommend it highly enough - it's about the equivalent of a 2Mb broadband package speed-wise and for a mobile connection I find that staggering.

Hi I've found a listing on ebay for unlimited broadband for £5 a month on pay as you go I bought it 2 months ago and its great if you want it check the sellers other auctions they are selling loads search for the user zeplin169 on ebay

they dont normally sell it for £5 a month its a loop hole in their program that this guy has found he's selling the information :)

Not like us to get full speed over here, but any I have come across all get 3.6Mb everywhere they go too.

How are you finding your 3 dongle Carl ??

check the feedback thats been left for zeplin169 on ebay you will see loads for the broadband all positive

So how does it work? When you purchased yours what did you have to do? Who do you pay the £5 a month too?

It's brilliant and I've not been anywhere that it will not connect. I actually get better speeds from it than I do from my fixed broadband connection.

you pay 3 £5 a month its down to a flaw in their system search for zeplin169 on ebay and read the listing it will give you the info if you can post links to other sites post it here then people can see for themselves

I must say, I have heard nothing but good reports about it.

I have a couple of clients who are just at the edge of the maximum broadband distance from the exchange, and we advised a 3G mobile link - on the strength that there was good mobile network coverage in their area.... they were never going to get this speed on a line, and none have ever even rang back with a query.

I am considering one myself at present, after getting caught out on a couple of geographically remote jobs with no internet connection, when having one would have saved me a bag of time. If this happens once more in the next couple of weeks, then I will be buying one. I think one of the little PAYG will suffice for me though, as it will be used so onfrequently.

I recently signed up for the 3 mobile broadband around two weeks ago and can confirm it is brilliant IMO.

Currently get up to 7 meg speeds, was a bit worried since I work in a huge steel building, but the signal gets through no problems, the 1Gig allowance is fine for my requirements, yet to find any area where it does not work.

It is as fast if not faster than most landline broadband, nice feature is allt he sw is pre-installed on the usb stick, insert it and it auto intalls, was warned firewalls etc might be a problem but mine installed 1st time no problem.

I've got 3 broadband too. It works really well.. I had no issues getting it to work with Vista. I used the default installer with my phone (SE software).. Works both with Vista and XP very well..

I get just over 1mbps usually.

I don't use the dongle, I have it as an addon to my existing mobile package.. My phone has a HSDPA modem so it works well especially when it comes to connecting devices such as a pocketpc via bluetooth when you're on the go.
