I run Windows 10 and have a subscription for Microsoft Office. Every so often I get a message that my account needs attention and when I try to log in, using what I know to be the crrect details, they are not recognised. I then try to reset my assword and, despite doing so, the new password is not recogised. I can open Windows 10 with the password I have always used for that, but the Microsoft account is a different password, and always has been.

Word and Excel open and work normally, but with a warning triangle on the top toolbar.

Is this a common issue, does anyone know, or have I been hacked?

any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Doesn't sound like a hack and more like an account mismatch or windows credential issues that was saved or faulty office installation

    1. lets make sure this office works correctly by reinstalling it via the tools: Here is a link: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/repair-microsoft-office-365-installation/

no worries it wont change your user files or outlook.

    2. while it is installing open a private browser mode and go to office.com. Log in with your credentials and see if you can login. If you can't reset pwd again. Once logged in see if you you can find your subscription there. If it is empty you use the wrong account.

    3. You can have a MS account and an Office account can be different emails.

    4. Another thing would be that you use 365 personal not 365 business. Open up any office app, click on file and choose account left column bottom. What does it say in the left column about the office product? Office 365 or Office 365 Plus ?

Office 365 is the home version and Office 365 Plus is the business version. They might look the same but are completely different systems.

    Please report back with finding.

    OK.
Did point 1 - slightly different now, but did Quick Repair.
    2. Manged to login after having to reset password (again)
4 It appears I am using the home version (hell, I work form home!o_O)
When I checked the version in the account column in app I still got a message showing problems with account and a fix me button. I haven't pressed that.

thanks very much for the help

Well if you use the home version all is handled with the Microsoft live account not the 365 business account.

It sounds like a mismatch between 365 Home and 365 business or an expired license. Whenever you go to office.com and login it should redirect you to live.com. Can you find the 365 subscription on there and what does it say about license status?

    Try to login here: https://account.microsoft.com/

Review the details under the Services & Subscriptions heading.

    • If you see a circle arrow, then your subscription is set up for recurring billing, unless you turn recurring billing off or cancel it beforehand. The next charge info shows you when you’ll be charged next, and for how much.

    • If you see Expires on [date], then your subscription will expire on that date, unless you renew.

Cyndy, if it's of any consolation, you're not alone. A lot of people have the logging in problems you've had. Do a few searches online and you'll find millions of threads about this.

Microsoft has long been screwed up in this respect.

Sure, some people have their caps lock on, or have multiple language keyboards and happen to be in a different language when trying to log in. But even if you exclude them there are still problems with MS's logins (and security and everything). That's been the case for years.

I avoid these problems by using OpenOffice instead.

With respect your png, you can upload it here: https://imgbb.com/

90% this is either an account mismatch, wrong version, expired license or windows credentials issue. All servers are up and running with MS at the moment. if you can login to office.com and see your subscription working all is good and the problem lies on the PC.

Only thing I can agree with Clinton is they rather created a very confusing account system with different servers and no clear error message what's going on. If your subscription expired or you are on a different account it still will run for 60 days before it stops working. All in your problem could have started a month ago.

Thanks. I hope I have sent a screenshot that shows the subscription page, which is recurring and up to date. But it also offers an upgarde to 365 Home, and shows I have 365 Personal.
