No but they are dead easy to do.

Just put your usual legal/admin blurb at the front and then have sections detailing how you go about your work, what site surveys you do, risk assessments, quality processes and so on.

Basically just show then you are a good and safe chap. If you have a company/staff handbook that has most of this guff in then just refer from the method statment to the handbook.

I've just written a whole bunch of these for the London Cycle Hire Scheme. The longest one was 5 pages including the cover, contents list and a checklist.

Here's a freebie: http://www.hsdirect.co.uk/free-info/free-method-statement-download.html

Wish I had waited I just paid 8.99 x 2 on that hsdirect website for health & method statement.

Never been asked before but I guess the type of clients I am now dealing with they would require this.

Cheers guys, I will wait more than 5 mins before throwing cash at things.

Don't worry too much about what they say, Nobody has ever read any of them. It's just a paper excersise to make the H+S inspector feel he has a bigger ***** than he has.
Not strictly true.

Site Managers and clients now seem to be going through the detail quite carefully. Generics, unless carefully edited, are getting rejected. At least on the jobs we get involved with.

I've found that having a good set of process documents means you can minimise your method statements.

And if you carry out a good site survey you may not even need any risk assessments (all the relevant safety instructions will be in your process documents).

As somebody has already stated, Generic plans of work are a no-no.

What ever you state on there needs to be followed to the last letter.

I have to submit mine to the HSE,and then they will scrutinise it to the death.
Have a section on there for amendments and let a competent person make any changes and detail why if they need to, but be careful, too many amendments looks like bad planning to a Safety inspector of any calibre!
