Hi there,

I have an interview for a company I would love to work for, in which they have asked me to preopare a 15 min presentation on how I would devise and execute a marketing plan for them in order to gain more customers and sales.

I do marketing plans in my current company quite often, but I've never had to present a plan before to a company I don't know the ins and outs or objectives of. I only have two days to prepare. Can anybody give me advice on what you think they may want to see and what important areas I should cover? I'm not sure whether this means I actually present a marketing plan to them, or explain what I would do. I just thought I'd double check this!

Many thanks,
Lily

The cynic in me says they want ideas from people they are not looking to employ.
The optimist in me says you can wow them.

2 days for a 15 minute presentation when you don't know the company? A struggle to do well I would imagine.

They have given you written / verbal instructions? Use those exactly. And in full.

Use the info from their website, social media, linkedin and other resources. Two days is loads of time to put a 15 minute presentation together. I reckon they want to see how good your research skills.

Do as much research you can on the internet and explain that "whilst you have little knowledge of the company except that in public domain, you have to make a very general plan"

Ring up reception and ask how many salesmen/ women they employ

Make a plan enlarging the salesforce by one person in a different market to the one its currently in, or add a new product to their current range.

One way you can approach this is, as you're doing research on this company, look for their marketing gaps and provide ideas on how to fix them. I think this might be the reason they're looking for a marketer to begin with. They know they have a marketing problem, they don't know where to start, and they want to see if you can diagnose what these problems are and whether you know how to fix them.

    Alright Lily
    I would do this.

    1. highlight the requirements of their customers
    2. go over to the website (company you want to work for) and ask the question "is it workng hard enough"
    3. Ask 4 questions relating to the salescopy term AIDA
    4. dont give the answers, create the questions
    5. then finish off the presentation asking when they would like to start on correcting their issues

    NOTES
    A - Attention
    I - Interest
    D- Desire
    A - Action

you can always stick in a C and make it AIDCA (credibility)

Does the website get the attention of the visitor (problem and solution° does the website get their interest, build their desire, show testimonials and ask the visitor to call, leave their details or buy now.

Don't worry about a fully blown marketing plan, concentrate on just a small area and use their website landing page. You have access to it!!!

REMEMBER at the end of the presentation ask them for the job right now.
    Ask them.
"if we implemented those changes, what would a 1% increase in revenue give you?"
"is this the sort of low hanging fruit we can pick today to give you a fast ROI"
