It was set to show only the last day's worth of threads

Why?

The result of this is:

(1) It's made that section look like it's rarely used, which will inevitably reduce the popularity of the section

(2) It's going to kill off threads that were still live, but hadn't had a comment for 48 hours.

Unless there's some benefit that you guys aren't telling us about, is there any chance that marketing could go back to being treated the same way as other sections?

Hi Steve,

Being relatively new to the forums, I don't know. Each forum seems to have been set differently, probably a judgment based on the usual volume of posts in each of them. The lack of new threads in that forum since Friday means it's emptied itself. None of them get killed off, they were just not being shown.

is there any chance that marketing could go back to being treated the same way as other sections?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'go back to being treated the same way' - it would always have been this way. I've now set the Marketing forum to show 2 weeks worth of threads, which will mean a good few pages of Marketing forum history.

And you can always show more, if you need to, by changing the 'Display options' at the bottom of any forum's thread listing.

Cheers,
Darren

...I've just gone through admin and set all forums under the 'Business Forums' parent forum to show 1 month's worth of threads.

If the other forums were already doing this, but the Marketing & PR one wasn't, then I'm stumped!

Hope everyone's having a good Bank Holiday, by the way? I'm enjoying a surprisingly good Tesco Muscadet Sur Lie!

Cheers,
Darren

Well, a quick visual check of all the other sections show them set to show 1 month - so I guess that is the default setting. (cos I have never altered any of my defaults)

Sorry - not trying to have a dig - just feel uneasy "telling" the owners what to do :)

Too much of that and it will be a Muscadet Slur ie

It will indeed, but I must try my best to moderate the number of glasses...maybe...!

Hi Ray - I would never take it as a dig, these forums need to be what the members want them to be (the principled ones that is, not the spam-a-lots), and if that means changing a few things for the better, I'm all for it.

Hi Hayles,

OT's OK in small doses, but I'd better keep it brief!

Firstly, forum moderation is still performed almost entirely by the established team.

From Sift, I'm around mainly to learn the moderation ropes, to see what's being talked about, to find out what new features members would like to see, and so on. I'm also looking at the technical side of things, admin system, forum setup, registration problems, etc.

Dan Martin (who is also editor of BusinessZone.co.uk) is active within the forums themselves, joining discussions, adding polls, finding stories to write, and so on. Dan has moderator rights, but in the main this is to support his editorial role.

Finally, there's 3 others in Sift who have mod access (across my team and Dan's), but who are not so active at present. Essentially, they're also learning the ropes to make sure there's support available when it's needed. These are Gareth Beck, Ed Martin and Kate Phelon.

Not as brief as I first thought...but I hope that answers your question!

Cheers,
Darren
