Hi All,

I am just about to go ahead with a mailshot to businesses i have obtained on Companies House.

My options are:
  • Test 1,000 for £720 or send 4,000 for £1,700.
  • Pay £900 to purchase 10,000 b2b email addresses (although usually get blocked)
All B2B.

Any experiences/thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
A

Turn this around. What do you do with mailshots that arrive in the post?

I chuck them in the bin without even opening the envelope.

In any case, I wouldn’t trust the list they provide. I’d want to verify every address and make sure they are viable leads. How will you even know the letters went in the post?

The quality/ response of the mailing will depend almost entire on the quality of the data and the content/presentation of the letter.

I use a mailing house from time to time - it costs about 48p per letter off the top of my head

The big limitation is that they have to use window envelopes, a barcode type thing and fixed fonts - which combine to make it look like a mail shot, so limiting response. Ideally you need hand- written plain envelopes - and possibly something lumpy inside.

Hi,

I was seeking what other people do/experiences are of sending mailshots.

The letter is good. I want to know if people get a good uptake from mailshots or have tried it before and completely flopped ?

Thanks

Properly targeted, maybe a decent response rate.
Scattergun approach then expect response to match.

To be honest there's often tons of businesses seeking customers. Yours might be targeted but be the 34th letter about that solution so far this year. Don't expect much apart from initial contact.

This is the key. Build your own list, even better do some warm up marketing first. The list you get for you £720 will get you nothing useful in return. Except maybe to annoy the recipient.

I've used a data base firm in Kent, they customise the complete package, print, stuff and post far below the Royal Mails price. Make sure the intro letter is professionally written and well presented and drip feed them ( x amount per week ), then leave a month and do it again, not much point a 3rd time. I found we had a good response rate but after a year or so we were also finding clients who weren't on the list to start with so make sure the list is up to date. Done well, it works.

Thanks guys,

I am going ahead with 1000 for £720.

Our email conversion previously was roughly 0.06%. DMA have said response rates for mailshots average approx 4.4% and emails 0.12%.

So on that basis, we will hopefully get a 2.2% response which i would be happy with. 22 new clients.

This is also just a test to start with and will increase to 4000-8000 if successful.

I will update how it goes. Planning to send next week once all set up correctly.
