Magento Pricing Rules

Hi there,

Does anyone know a good way to set pricing in products in sale, in a way that is obvious that they are on sale? My ultimate goal is to be able to report on only products bought on sale. So I was wondering if there is any advice to set it correctly.

It would be easier if you explained what makes a product obvious that is on sale to you so that we can then give you answers or advice on how to achieve that in Magento.

There's tons of ways of implementing this from tweaking/extending Magento, using extensions and/or styling (CSS) alone.

Basically I know there's the special_price field inside Magento products. However, this field only tells me the special price and main price of the product at this present moment. If I am importing a large number of historic data, there is no way to know if the line item unit price corresponds to the main price or the special price of a product as I can only see the product at this moment in time, not historically.

So I would just like to know if there's any hacks to go around this issue. As an example, let's say a shirt's price is £85 and its discount is 30%, so special discount price is £59.5. But it has been previously sold at £100... where does that factor in? It's hard to work out previous periods of sale based on the current product pricing.

Thanks for the example.

So why not just run a price promotion of 30% off X products between two dates. That way, you still have the default price, RRP and special price in the product but historically know when a product sold for more/less, it was a result of a price promo which you can easily see which was active for that date?

Does that sound any good?
