Magento Plug-in, What am I looking for?

We run a Magento based store selling a small range of products that rarely change after new lines are added/discontinued at the beginning of the year. These are added by our webguy from images and info we forward as required.

We regularly accumulate individual or small amounts of dead stock, 3 of this, 7 of that etc., and I want to offer these for sale through the site without having to go through the formality of fully uploading to the regular pages. I'm thinking an editable pop up that I can update quickly but searching a couple of Magento extension sites can't find anything at all.

What name or terminology would you suggest I use to narrow my search?

I had the same reaction as @antropy reading your request @Lucan Unlordly - surely it shouldn't be that complex to do. I would have an expectation that it shouldn't need any bespoke work, just a new category of Hot Sale or whatever and just move the left over stock to that category. Perhaps a tweak the menu, but I cannot imagine any half reasonable e-commerce app to need something bespoke building for this.

If you don't load it as normal, how will you manage the transaction?

Is it really that complex just to add products in Magento these days?
For me, yes. That's why I employ the services of a couple of web guys.;)

I'm talking about the facility to put something on sale as quick as I can add a post here, a picture on Facebook etc., I have dozens of items that are only slightly above 'may as well bin them' value, but also see the opportunity to add new items to test the water.

There's an assumption that running an e-commerce site for 10 years blesses one with the knowledge and ability to suggest they know what they are doing. I don't! :D

I've bounced this one off my web guy and await an answer, which may well be incorporation of something within the current set up:cool:

See above, I haven't a clue! That said, initially, I see the most likely purchasers to be existing customers adding to a bigger regular order.

As above... just add a new product using the default magento Add product. It will take less than 3 mins per product if you are cutting and pasting a description and images at hand. You only need title / sku / description / price / category / images just like any other ecom solution. While I am sure your store has plenty of additional Product Attributes if speed is they key you don't need to fill them all in just use the bare minimum.

To speed things up just use the Duplicate product button for a similar product.

The whole point of a platform like Magento is that you don't need a web developer to add content.

To be blunt: you just need to learn how to do it, it's really not hard. And if it is then maybe consider an easier platform to use than Magento.

    Paul.
I have learnt the basics but product uploads are so infrequent - half a dozen new products twice a year - I need to re-learn the process every time!

I started out many years ago with Actinic, a dodgy CD off Ebay, then upgraded to a genuine copy soon after. Initially it was great as there was pretty much only one option for each segment. Later on the software became so complex, a one stop covers all, and it took time and expertise to pick out the simple parts we needed.

Like Corel Draw that I use every day. There's so much to learn if you want to draw AI masterpieces. I don't and despite there special offers to upgrade, I'm still running 2019 software and that's only because they made older software unusable.

I understand, I'm old enough to remember some pretty epic software from the 90s and 00s.

But, you should bite the bullet and do it, and write yourself a checklist. You know I'm right ;)

Although I agree in a way with this, I more leaning towards @Lucan Unlordly reasoning that he doesn't need to learn how to do it. He just needs enough knowledge to not have the wool pulled down, and in this case as I said earlier - what you're trying to achieve is default stock functionality so your web designer should not be coming back to you with a big quote of lots of work.

I read this and immediately my back caved in and my hips gave way as flashbacks from the distant past caught up with me!

I could learn a lot more about everything but I'm your typical have an idea do it yourself business owner who's still doing the same as he was on day one, but is 20 times busier. I don't have time to learn and we're not big enough, through choice, to delegate any aspects of the business other than web stuff and accounting.

I have no fear of being duped or overcharged for web work and only posted on here to save my guy some time searching for an extension or add on. He will know exactly what's doable within Magento but I thought it may be easier if I said 'something like this'....

If they don't want to DO it then they must DELEGATE it, not invent a strange and messed up way of DOING it themselves ;)

Use 'Save and Duplicate' and append a SKU with something like '-SALE'

Change product title and product description to include a word 'SALE' to prevent duplicated content
