Lost Google Places Reviews

I neglected the online presence of my business for a long time. My website was actually down for about two years. Since that period I noticed I lost most of my Google Places reviews. Any ideas why this could be and whether I can get them back?

Probably because your website was down for two years. Unlikely you will ever get them back.

You don't really say what happened and when here, but Google Places hasn't really existed since about 2015, Google began a migration of the data into their new business listing platform Google My Business (GMB). This brought together any existing Google Place data and Google+ Local data.

In theory your listing should have migrated, as Places became GMB. If you can still log in you will be able to see all the data and details about your business location, website URL, reviews etc. The reviews can be viewed using the menu on the right hand sites, if they are not there then you won't have any and will have to start getting reviews from scratch again.

The only other thing you could check is that you haven't got more than one listing under a different business name. You could see what comes up via Google searches on Google maps for your business name/type of business.

1. Log into Google My Business.
2. In the upper left corner, open the menu and choose “All Locations.”
3. If prompted, verify that you are authorized to manage this business and agree to the Terms of Service.
4. Click “Manage Location.”
5. From the Location page, click “Edit.”
6. Open the Maps section.
7. Click “Edit Marker Location.”
8. Wiggle the map marker just a tiny bit and save.

If you notice a review is missing, it may be because the user the created the review has deleted it.

Google really tightened up on listings a while back. You should be able to call or tweet them for help though.
