Looking to move from Mr Site!

I am considering moving from Mr Site but want a website where I can make my own changes and one that is clean and looks professional, but I only have limited funds until I see how my product sells. Any suggestions and guidance much appreciated.

What does everyone think about wordpress?

Hi Tina,

We'd certainly recommend Wordpress for this.

Any decent web host will provide you with a one click installer so you can have it installed for you in seconds. Some like us even let you select it when you order.

Wordpress certainly looks clean and professional by default, and you there are a lot of good free themes out there, or premium ones on theme forest. You can simply search for one from within your admin area and it'll get downloaded and installed for you.

There are also plenty of plugins available to add paypal payment and so forth. There are even eCommerce/shopping cart themes if you want that.

There's lots of help available across the Internet and on this forum, as Wordpress is very widely used.

I'm guessing this is to sell ebooks on moving from home, and provide advice?

If so, Wordpress would be ideal, especially because you can easily add a blog and then write useful content and advice, linking to your product pages, and sharing these posts via social media. This is great for SEO and can help drive traffic.

If you need any help just let us know.

Good luck!

Dan

Hello Tina,

I would 100% recommend based on previous experience that you give moonfruit.com a go. They are a great stepping stone form Mr Site as they will do the same job but so much better, they give more flexibility and constantly upgrading their products and services. You can create a much better looking website and they have recently revived investment form Yell.

Visit their website and have a play around with a template, I'm an experienced user so if you need any help just give me a shout.

On the other hand I also wanted to add that you might want to consider why your looking to move, is it something you can fix without the change over? If your website is performing well and its just a small issue maybe that's not the answer?

This is a bad idea - the OP wants to move from Mr Site because of the proprietary nature of it - Moonfruit is no different.

Much better to go with a generic web host and use well know scripts like Wordpress which will give the OP the freedom to change hosting provider whilst keeping the website.

agree. Stay well away from moonfruit, weebly and all other online site builders.

And as far as I remember, moonfruit is flash based so even more pants than mrsite.

I am an experiened suer of both and moonfruit is in a different league.

With limited funds, moonfruit is a great stepping stone.

Until one can afford to have a website custom built its not a bad idea at all.

What makes moonfruit better? In my experience it has been awful :(

Get some basic hosting, install wordpress and have a play with it :)

All the advice here not advising a change to Moonfruit is from either web designers or hosting services?

I dont offer either, I'm speaking from experince, no its not the best invention in the world and but with limited funds and experience using an application across the same lines its not a bad idea.

Moonfruit is very, very flexible and offers almost everything needed for standard website design.

Wordpress is also a powerfull tool but based on limited info from the OP I feel moonfruit is not a bad idea at all

The problem is not with Moonfruit - i'm sure they have many happy customers), but that it does not match the OP's requirements - the OP want to move away from Mr Site because of the bespoke nature of the service - they want a generic solution such as Wordpress (see the other thread about why).

The truth is that whilst services like Moonfruit and Mr Site may look appealing initially, they almost always turn out to be a hindrance to the online growth of a business.

I would agree that all DIY website builders are not great long term solutions 100%.

I just feel that when a business is a small business (Not to say that thats the case for the OP) its better to have a website in line with that thats affordable and flexible.

But as I say, yes, Moonfruit is not the answer to all website needs.

i'd be wary of website building services like moonfruit and weebly

they sound great at the start and get a small company online quickly but in the end they are a hinderance and limit expansion.

however the op can move to any linux hosting service that supports php (any linux host) that will get you up and running with wordpress

also look for a one click installer like softaculous, fantastico to get it installec on your webspace

as for clean looking, you should be able to get a template created fairly cheaply
