Hello,
We are looking to speak with someone experienced in the packaging of flatpack furniture. What considerations need to be made at the design stages of flatpack furniture to optimise for their packaging and delivery? E.g. Maximum weight, optimal shape/size of packages.
This is for the same project as my other post on this forum.
Any help/ pointers appreciated.
Regards,
Geoffrey

Surely if you've got an experienced designer involved who will be designing the furniture, this is their job?

    Thanks Paul,
Flatpack furniture is a 'related industry' for us! So, yes, whilst we have an experienced designer on board, he's not experienced in flatpack furniture and especially the packaging considerations that you need to think about.
Our idea being that if we can understand these more thoroughly we can bear these in mind with the design.

It's really quite a specific thing so I'm not sure you'll find a member here with experience in this, but if it were me, I'd take a trip to IKEA, buy a few things and then slowly unpack them while trying to reverse engineer a lot of the design decisions.

    Paul.

^^^ That was going to be my suggestion.

The only time I ever got involving in packaging something that needed to be assembled I recall the design started with how to package the components. Their size was determined by the needs of the packaging. This was to minimise the amount of packaging and the process required to do the packaging.
