Logged out too quickly...

I may be a slow typer... but the log out times here seem a little harsh. Virtually every post I make I have to log back in for. Not complaining, just thinking it needs looking at!

I agree with you. I'm not a slow typer, but I am long-winded! Doubling the auto-logout time would help me too.

don't think it matters if your permanentley logged on or not. If you don't do any activity on the site within a certain time frame (or it seems post within a certain time) it logs you out and that time is qquite short - I'd say about 10 minutes max.

Hi,

The default logout time is after 15 minutes inactivity - is this too short? Happy to up it if you think so.

If you're having logouts in less than 15 minutes, it might be that site cookies aren't being accepted by your PC, but this is generally due to very high security settings.

Cheers,
Darren

ive never set anything up to do that so I couldnt explain why it is. I thought there was no timeout.

even if I navigate away to other pages for any length of time, I can return logged in at any time. I never physically log out of the forum and whenever I come online, I just click onto UKBF from my fave list and im already logged in. The only time I log in and out is if I were to use some other pc not belonging to me.

BTW, I would find it a real pain if I were to have to keep logging in though.

Isnt there a timeout warning then?

If I had to log in all the time I would not post so much as I couldnt be doing with logging in every time. Activity is often broken with quiet periods, therefore inactivity is likely between some postings so it should be fairly long (in my opinion). Anyway as I dont have that problem its not an issue for me.

If you actually logged yourself off just the once, you would see that you remain logged on for the 15 mins then you are logged off, and its just because you have set up your machine to automatically remember you that you dont have to enter in your details every time.

Believe me, you are not logged on all the time, as your name is not in the list all the time as being on site.

I said I was logged on whilst ever I was using the internet, which isnt all of the time.

I did tick the box when I first logged in, that says 'remember me' but then, everyone has that function so if thats the 'set up' that enables me to not having to keep logging in, how come Darren didnt spot that earlier? I presumed everyone knows its there as an option. Other than that, I never set my machine to do anything for UKBF.

The issue seems more to do with the definition of inactivity. Typing a message, for example, seems to count as inactivity. So does editing a message. 15 minutes of inactivity would be fine if it truly is inactivity.

'Inactivity' has been defined by the programmers of vBulletin. It will be the time since your last request to the server.

I don't think many forum platforms would check whether you're typing a message or not to keep you logged in.

I'll up it to 30 minutes, see if it makes things easier.
