I have a personal website which I've been working on over time with help from developers when needed, the site has been live for a few months but I can seam to get any ranking
Wordpress website seo, how to check if its working ?
I cant find the website in google using the keyword search,

I've done the onsite seo myself.

I hired someone to check and update the seo where needed but I was told the onsite seo is good it just need link building and a press release. he did the press release and fix a few bugs like the site map but im still not getting anything.

Im not sure if its something to do with google seo updates but can anyone advise me what ive done wrong.

Any good reliable seo people on here that I can turn to ?

    This makes me cringe.

There are so many variables, from the page titles, to the internal link structure, to the number and location of business citations. It's not as easy as claiming one particular reason for not ranking well.

I'm not about to list every local search ranking factor, that can be found out with a simple Google search. It does depend on things like the keywords you're targeting, how well your website meets search intent for the keywords, and how well-established your site/business is (links and citations come into this).

Can you give us some more info on your website and maybe someone can offer some actionable advice.

To be honest, that doesn't sound like someone who knows what they are doing. Press releases (in this context) are a largely outdated way of building links, and not really the best way of doing things.

Best thing to do is become a member and get a free site review.

It would be interesting to take a look at your website. If you send me a PM I could give you some suggestions of what could be done. However it would be even better if you became a full member, which has been suggested by Scott, because then you can ask for a review of your website and get various opinions from skilled persons here on the forums.

Also if you are interested in learning more about SEO there is a course that you could take a look at. It's called Fresh Bananas and is offered by a legend here on the forums, @Tin.

the site has been live for a few months

This is part of the problem

I cant find the website in google using the keyword search

What are your target keywords? Are they something you can realistically rank on?

The most important factor for Google ranking NOW still is Backlink. You have to have a linkbuilding strategy for that.
Here is some ideas: Web 2.0, PBN, blog comment, file sharing, link profiles, guest posting,...
And my tactic: Using network such as: linkedin, medium to build trust ranks for your sites!

Not true and these techniques have minimal value add.

Just ranked a local site from page 4 to position 1 for [county] [trade] specialist and position 3 for [county] [trade] / [trade] [county].
Not a single backlink building exercise, just 9 months of careful onsite and content gentle tweaking.

I have some sites that get outranked by amazon and when you follow the link the product isn't even in stock and, sometimes, they have 3 pages for this product ranked 1,2 and 3. And, yes, it's out of stock on all those pages.

Does this tell you that search ranking is easy or does it tell you that google places a lot of emphasis on sites that have built up trust and reputation for more than a couple of months?
