For the guys who do VoIP here, please can you explain the difference between these two ATA's
Linksys PAP2T and PAP2-NA, which is preferable and better.

I need to buy either of the above to use with a dect phone, is it possible to use these ATA with two different VOIP providers simultaneously?

Thanks

I *think* the NA is the version with an FXO port so you can also use a PSTN line.

Linksys gear can be a b*gger to configure unless you buy pre-configured from a service provider. Really it wants to talk to other Linksys devices and defaults won't be UK tones or dialplan. Usually you need to disable some Linksys specific 'features' to get it working properly with other services.

Also be careful where you buy as there are lots of PAP2's around that are locked to service supplier settings, eg Vonage.

Fascinating stuff if you don't mind spending hours with Google and the configuration settings.

There are various versions of the PAP2, I think the NA refers to an unlocked version of Vonage's adapter for North America; there is also a EU one, presumably for Europe.

But never mind, what you need is the PAP2T which is generic version and as KM says, you are better getting it from the service provider you intend to use it with as it will come preconfigured for the service.

It will be ideal to buy from a service provider, but i have Amazon vouchers which i intend to use for it.

Any possibility this can be used for two different VOIP providers? i want to sign up to a voip provider on this forum, but wife uses 12voip as her family abroad use same.

One word of warning. I have used DECT phones with a couple of these ATA's (the old Linksys SPA-2000 and Grandstream boxes) and I have had problems on a number of occasions with echo problems which just will not go away. They are fine with standard analogue handsets but with DECT they can be a pain.

I would suggest in preference something like the Siemens Gigaset A580IP: http://www.voipon.co.uk/siemens-gigaset-a580ip-p-1010.html. It's only about £8.00 more expensive that the PAP2T. I've installed one of these recently and the voice clarity is fantastic compared with a DECT phone + ATA combination.

It does depend on the quality of the DECT phone that you use but must cheap DECT phones can cause problems in my experience.

You can register the Siemens with 6 different SIP account, and I am fairly sure these can be different providers as well.

Give Voipon a call on Monday and they will confirm, they are excellent at providing that sort of detail.

    Many Thanks

Yes you can register the Siemens hands with different VoIP accounts.

It's a superb piece of kit for the price.

You can also have up to six handsets and VoIP calls can be made by two handsets at once. It also supports internal transfer between DECT handsets! It supports a number of different codecs including low bandwidth G.729 and G.722. It also auto-registers to the Gigaset VoIP service and calls can be made to other Gigasets using a pre-defined number.

I finally bought the Siemens gigaset A580 IP phone from amazon £45 inc p&p.
It was a bit difficult to figure out the settings,(the manual is about 200 pages long) but once i did the first setting, others are easy to set up. i have 3 Voip account configured on the phone and the call quality is very good.
