Limited Company 'Group' Name

Hi,

We are in the process of registering with companies house and I am struggling to understand if we can use the word 'Group' in our name.

We specialise in contract cleaning and will focus solely on these services over the next 1-2 years. However our long term plans include branching out our business to include maintenance & security services to offer clients along with our cleaning services.

A business owner told me that I would not be allowed to register our name with 'Group' in it whilst we trade as a cleaning service as it is misleading. We are not a group, I am the only director and we only offer one type of Service- Cleaning.

My view is that I want the word 'Group' in it as even though at present it would have no meaning, further down the line when we offer different services the name will become meaningful and indicate to potential customers that we offer a range of services.

So can I go ahead and register with the name 'Group' as part of our name now? Will anyone question me if I do this?

Check on the registry if there is a similar company name. Plus ring companies house direct and ask them. They are helpful .

Hi,

Group is not classed as a sensitive word since 31 January 2015. (see https://www.gov.uk/government/news/changes-to-the-rules-for-company-and-business-names )
