Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right place but..

I'm wondering if anyone is using leaflet distribution for their business, and if so, are there any recommendations/tips when selecting distribution companies?

We've done a small batch recently but it was incredibly unsuccessful. I'm not sure how honest the companies when they say they will deliver.

Many thanks in advance.

I don't call it leaflet distribution but we have somebody put flyers / brochures and postcards through the letterboxes of businesses and it generates a 1 per cent lead rate

As Jeremy says, in 2023 leaflet distribution is one of the worst performing marketing methods in terms of conversions. This is for door dropped leaflets, leaflets in local newspapers/magazines are even worse.

The reasons are pretty simple, for flyers to work the customer has to need to use your service, actually see the flyer (many end up straight in the bin, or never seen when in local papers), then either keep the flyer or remember the details.

Unfortunately, most customers use local web searches to get results for local services/companies, as they want to compare options and reviews etc. Word of mouth and social media also have a better impact and conversion than flyers...

my daughter used to distribute leaflets door to door pre covid. She spread it over the month on her way to/from school.

She covered 1100 homes, 2 leaflets was £110 and 3 was about £150 - a guy ran several "rounds" locally

The local monthly council thing was one so people tended to open it - another regular was the big local estate agents trying to keep themselves in peoples eyes - a 3rd which she actually sourced was the Indian sort of next over - when the local one shut they did a bunch of leaflets to the area which apparently worked really well in getting them that old places customers converted before it was refurbed and reopened with new mgt - so i guess it depends what you are flyering about, what you have on the flyer and what it is with

I'm assuming your targeting a local catchment area? You're far better off finding a local paper or magazine to advertise in. My local Chamber of Trade produces a 10,000 circulation magazine. Turning advertisers away for the next edition. Distribution is via a local charity and outlaying areas by Royal Mail.
Obviously, you should be promoting online as well.

It comes down to the basics, if the majority of people who receive your leaflet need your services/products it will work quite well, if not it won't work at all. What are you advertising and who to?

Bins on our road get collected on Monday. Bloke followed the truck sticking labels for wheelie bin cleaning on the empty bins. Proved very successful.

@skyfall - what services were you offering?

Maybe hire someone yourself rather than a using a company.

Pay them a base rate and offer them a small commission as an incentive. You can add a referral code to the leaflets to identify those specific sales.

Another good option for local businesses is Google business profiles. But don't do the bare minimum as most businesses do. Watch some videos on how to best utilise it in order to get the best results
