I had used HP laptops earlier for about 4 yrs and din't have a single problem with it. I just moved to Sony Vaio- Windows Vista- I regret picking it up:mad:.
So, I would say HP is a better choice-again it depends on the configuration --cost--looks-- etc..etc. So look around and I am sure you will find some good stuff. Guess DELL is also a good choice.

Cheers

I've had/got a Toshiba, HP, Dell and Asus. And used to have an IBM/Lenovo. LOVE the Dell (got Vista on it and its been immaculately behaved - happily runs software which XP never would, which is a little odd). The Toshiba has been a steady, if unspectacular, workhorse, as was the IBM. The HP had a screen problem develop after about 6 months and HP's customer service and support systems were terrible, so much so I wouldn't touch them again - 4 months to repair it, with no communications and when it did arrive the 1GB RAM had mysteriously turned into a single 256MB stick. The Asus is just a cheapo stand-by machine. Personally, Dell all the way from now on - performance has been excellent and its a nice machine to use.

I still don't see it :)

Anyways, the type of laptop is not totally dependant upon brand. Many people will have experience of one or two machines and will tell you that theirs is the best, but this is hardly practical advice.

Because someone has bought a Toshiba laptop and theirs is 'great' does not necessarily mean that Toshiba is the best brand, it merely means that the particular model they have purchased has been good for them. Toshiba (staying with them as an example) have made models of laptop which have very dodgy screens, yet their brand is a good one on the whole.

Some people like Acer, some say they are rubbish. This is the same with most brands.

You need to decide on how mush you have to spend, then decide on which of the features are going to be most important to you (ie Screen size, HDD, CPU, etc). This is how you decide on what to buy - just stick to one of the major brands, and you cannot go too far wrong.
