Kickstarter Exposure

Hi all,

I am launching a Kickstarter campaign in a couple of weeks for a reusable water bottle that filters on the go, the idea is to reduce bottled water use and therefore plastic waste.

Over the last few months our focus has been on perfecting the product design however I now need to ensure our target market finds out about the campaign so I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with Kickstarter and what the best method was to maximise exposure with potential backers?

You can see the product on Instagram and Twitter @bu_lifestyle

Many thanks

Hi Nick,

They do indeed but like many new products ours was triggered by our frustration with the existing range. A lot of them have restrictive nozzles making it hard to drink an adequate amount of water from. In addition we find they have clumsy styling which is where we've spent a lot of time making ours unique.

Our filter is 100% natural, so you can feel confident about what you're putting into your body. It's simply made from a single piece of bamboo; which is the fastest growing plant in the world, making the filter a truly sustainable product.

The trick now is getting the word out :)

Clumsy styling? Who cares? I do not give a monkeys what the water bottle looks like, only that it has water in it

Did you ever hear?

Is the glass half empty or half full? NO it is empty, but doesn't it look lovely

I am sure the Shoreditch people (That I only know from the Apprentice will pay loads for it)

We've worked hard designing a bottle that will look stylish whilst maintaining functionality. We wanted to create a reusable bottle that you can take anywhere to stay hydrated at all times.

For us and a lot of other people it's like a fashion accessory and we wanted a new design which looks good whether you're in the gym or in a business meeting. We feel this is something the current bottles on the market have missed, pushing consumers towards single use plastic bottles.

@ fisicx and beasty do you currently own a filtered water bottle?

Is it the one on your website?

That doesn't appear to achieve any of your goals as looks neither stylish nor functional. Do you have any clearer image or indications of size?

Yes.

Cost me £5 on ebay.

I'm sure the hipsters and fashionistas will go loopy over your bottle - maybe they are the people you need to expose your product to kickstart your kickstarter.

Hey Nick

Thanks for your opinion on our design, you may not be our target market which is fine :) we're not here to please everyone.

Going back to the original reason for the post - I was looking for people who have had experience with Kickstarter and ways to boost a campaign in general

Absolutely fisicx ;) out of interest, how often do you need to change your filter for your £5 bottle?
Came with a pack of 10. Gets changed when the indicator changes colour.

If you want to kickstart this product you need to do as ethical says and target the people who are going to buy this product. Which means gym sites, lifestyle forums, facebook groups, even fashion blogs. Promote the bottle to your potential customers and get them to go to your kickstarter page (which incidentally I couldn't find).

It sounds good, I think. But it must sufficiently differentiate - do you have a picture?

People may be interested in kickstarter if you can promote the social positives which can flow (pun intended) from this new product.

And, being kickstarter, it needs to be fresh, I suppose sexy. And, if you can make a water bottle sexy, you're a better salesperson than I

A glass bottle? Not sure that's a practical material to use when out trekking.

And please explain what chemicals and odours there are in tap water? And how filtering makes it silky smooth? And if you are going to claim it's easier for the body to absorb you need medical proof otherwise you could be in a lot of trouble.

That's why it's not a glass bottle - the base is made from Eastman Tritan BPA-free plastic.

Chlorine is the main cause of bad taste and odour in our tap water, the bamboo filter absorbs this resulting in an enhanced flavour, as explained on the Kickstarter page.

We worked closely with environmental health officers before the launch so don't worry ;)

Then I stand corrected (I really ought to read things fully and not just scan)

Looking good though. My wife likes it and is nudging me to contribute. So that will be later today
