hi there everyone one i have set up my on website using zen cart and a few addons to improve surfing experiance.

i have come to SEO and have alot to learn i know about keywords and how you need to choose relevant keywords based on content dont spam.

still i do not know what main site keywords to use.

my site sells alicebands,football kits so basically clothes and accessories.

can anyone give me a kick start in seo keywords.

p.s can you have keyword pharses ie. sim card wholesale, flower alice bands or does it have to be single words sim,card,alice,band etc etc

any help will be welcomed.

Hi,

Keywords are both single words and phrases, so when you create a list it will look like this:

acheap football kits
england football shirt
football boots
football jerseys
football kits
football replica
football shirt
football shirts
football short
football shorts
football t shirt
football t shirts
football top
replica football shirts
soccer kits
soccer shirt
soccer shirts
sports shirts
sports t shirts
tracksuits


Alice bands and related keywords have very low search volume, but you will sure want to optimize each page for the specific item related keyword.

The main rule is - optimize the main page for the highly serched keywords - in your case it could be soccer shirts, football jerseys etc, and the specific product related pages - for the small keywords.

Another important thing is - include the keywords in the pages' title and meta description tags so they get picked up by search engines.

The best thing for you is get Google AdWords account here:

https://adwords.google.co.uk/select/starter/signup/ForkAuth

and when your account is ready, you enter it and go to 'Tools' and then 'Keyword Tool' from below. There you can create lists of keywords and see search volume etc. Sure you don't want your main keyword to be 'accessorries' as it's not realistic to get ranked under it. Your main keywords have to be enough searched, and still be more specific.

From what I saw - its' soccer shirts, football jerseys and similar - they're searched in good thousands.

hi my google webmaster tools is showing that i have to duplicate pages of sim cards and 2 duplicate meta tags on my index.php page (homepage).

first of all could this be an error because i know there isnt two pages the same.

second could it be me having

pay as you go
pay as you go sim cards
etc
etc
etc
in my sitekeywords.

or could it be where im using zen cart and have 2 products with similar keywords and becuase i havnt got much content on item listings it thinks its off task to say.

please help as i am sure this is not good

In fact the keywords meta tag is seperated by commas, not seperate lines. Do bear in mind though that the keywords metatag isn't considered in SEO circles anywhere near as important as the title or description tags.

Top tip: if you're shooting for a phrase, do the whole phrase rather than seperate out the words for the phrase like word1,word2,word3. Ie if you're trying to rank on green plastic toys, don't bother with green,plastic,toys. Your green plastic toy page isn't trying to rank or be known as a page about green.

If you use more specific keyword phrases, granted you may not get as many hits, but you will have a higher coversion rate.
Example if someone is searching for pink sequined alice band, than you have a better cahnce of them buying the pink sequined alice band as they have already narrowed down their search.If they search in aliceband however they may find your site with the pin sequined aliceband and leave as they wanted black.

remember that content is king...design your site and add information that is targeted at the customer and not at google!
when you start adding keywords think about what the customer will be searching for.

as blush (above) says, target your keywords rather than just covering every keyword that you think may be used.

it's also worth being specific in your keywords and targetting specific lines that you want to promote.

Zen cart is intrinsically SEO friendly. You need to make a couple of changes, and you are good to go.

Take your eyes off those damn meta tags and focus on describing your categories and products better

so are you saying if i list good content in my descriptions titles etc will it help me appear better on google.

can you tell me wether i have inserted those keywords/pharses correctly.

should i not bother setting catogory and products meta tags if so how should i set them out so as not to ruin my SEO chances.

also as i asked before if i write descriptions full of good content/keywords and phrases will this help me in search engines or do i 100% need to set meta tags for both catogories and products within zen cart

i hope someone can help me as i am stuck and confused at how to target potential customers.

your keyword research is critical, you need to look at the competition for your main keywords and optimise your pages for those keywords. Don't forget long tail keywords, google is known for having searches with more long tail keywords

i know i need to keyword research and choose selected pharses but i dont know wether to set meta tags to every cataogory and item or just catogorys etc.

alot of my items are a like so my meta tags for each item would be pretty similar will this be a problem

Also bear in mind that th enarrower you go the more likely the searcher will be interested in your niche. Food is too general a word but italian orgainc food is much more likely to convert.
You will have to balance between the 2 so that you are not too general and are not too niched so that your 3 word phrase hardly brings in any traffic

Re the Zeb Cart.
Your best solution here is to hire someone off rentacoder on oscommerce/zen

There are many zen/osc specialists there who will do it for ten or twenty dollars
They will do it for you fast.

Otherwise you will have to get into php coding which may not be your strength

i do not currently have the money to hire a coder but i learn as i go and im sure i can pick it up easy enough.

i am basically stuck with two problems.

1. Seeing how i rank for common searchs in my area (accessories, sim cards, hair accessories etc)

2. Sourcing womens clothing wholesale.
