    Hi guys,

I am currently working on/trying to improve the SEO on my shopify store and could do with a good keyword research tool. I have read its best to go for longer keywords especially with being a new store.

Any ideas on some good keyword tools?

    Thanks

    We use google keywords tool.
A waste of time. The keywords tools is for adwords so at best will only ever give you a rough comparison any usually misses all the useful keywords.

There is so much written online none of it qualified.
"I have read its best to go for longer keywords"

You don't target long tail keywords because you pick them up naturally. And also the long tail keywords will rarely have volume. There may be cases where there is volume but you then will find the market already knows them.

In theory you could target a long tail keyword and rank for it, you will though loose the volume from the shorter less qualified leads.

Hire an seo guy and spend your time working on your business. If it's new (lots of other tasks) then don't make the mistake of spending time on seo, that's not a good idea.

That being said https://app.kwfinder.com/ is a good service. Have a look at what google suggest as you type into its search box.

Doesn’t a good SEO expert cost a lot of money to sort a website? Also working a 9 - 5 (rubbish pay) lol. Hence why I’m trying to do it all myself :/

Put yourself in the shoes of your target audience and think what they will search for if they are in need of your products. If needed use Google Keyword Planner as a reference.

All the most popular ones have already been mentioned.

You need to check the keywords you think your customers will be searching for
You need to check related phrases
You then need to check the volume for those keywords and phrases
You can make a note of the ones you already rank for
You can make a note of the ones you already rank for and have a higher volume
You can setup monitor to monitor the keywords that are already doing well and the ones that need to be improved

    Good luck.

If you are looking for sale generated keywords with good search volume and also tightly relevant to your business then , you have to research alot. No single tool can provide you list of best suitable keywords.. I am using Google Adwords and Trends in initial phase then after filter results with SEMrush and MOz..

If you're starting to do keyword research I would honestly check out Brian Dean of Backlinko. He offers so much quality advice on website traffic, keyword research and SEO in general. Just finished reading his Longtail Keyword PDF which was a real eyeopener.

You don't need keyword research to improve your rankings. You need it to study the competition. For your website all you need is to think of what people could possibly write to find you. For example "handmade pottery in london". Try to keep it at 4-5 words with slight alternations. Obviously it should be something that people are likely to write. "Handmade pottery with bright colours"... no one's gonna write that.

Hi I use ahrefs.com to do keyword research. Recommend finding head (highest volume) terms to target either on your homepage or category pages and then writing blog posts on the long-tail keywords. Ahrefs has a great questions filter that shows all of these that have low competition.

One way is to install Google Search Console and wait a few days for the data to show up. In there you'll see what are the search terms that triggered your website to show on.
After that you can use keywords where you rank well and start improving positions on those specific keywords by adding more content related to that keywords and improve exisitng.
Besides, I think the best way to find keywords is to use several tools, not one (search console, Google Ads KW tool, Google search suggestions and analyze top ranking competitors - which kws are they targeting).

If you Google, 'keyword tools for shopify store' you'll see that Shopify itself has published a lengthy piece on how to discover keywords for your store, however, the best content around this subject comes from Brian Dean of Backlinko. He literally knows SEO inside out and offers lots of practical tips and advice for all types of industry. Just Google, 'backlinko ecommerce seo' and you'll see lots of really helpful articles.

One caveat worth mentioning—some of the stuff around keywords requires consistent work on your part to make it work over time. Take some of the key advice given and commit to doing some of this regularly.

It can be quite overwhelming when you start this process but if you stick to the advice given in one or two of the articles outlined in the searches I've mentioned, you'll have more than enough to get going with. Good luck!

I maintain a list to the best free tools This got deleted once (assume moderated) not sure why, it's relevant and what people need if they want what the OP requested..This is a business forum and I want to be able to network here like most of us. If you have a rule against this then I would revise it or make common sense allowed and a case by case basis approach. I am going to stop providing support here (in my sector) if there is no give and take. Check my posts I am a giver vital for forums to work. I have been around long enough to have seen forums bigger than this die so respect members please.
