Keyword Ranking on 8th Feb 11

"buy fashion clothes" this keyword was at 5th rank before 8th feb. But when i checked at 8th feb i found on 196. Why so? Google dance or any other reason .

Can anyone suggest me about that?

Give me the url and i will have a quick look Oliver. Could be many different reasons but likely it will be resurrectable if it was ranking well before if you start a link building campaign

Google may have decided the site was not worth ranking so high anymore or it could be a Google wobble (happens form time to time). Of if it is a new site you may have been given a bit of a boost while Google decided where you should rank.

If you site hasn't returned in a couple of days then 196 is your true ranking.

When you check your ranking you might be getting a result personal to you. For a good reference result do the following.

Turn off Google web history, you may not realise you have it turned on so search it out.

Log out of any Google services before searching such as youtube and gmail.

Turn off Google instants.

Results now have a geographic element as well but haven't found a way to hide location as yet.

This should give a more representative result. I can get position 1 page 1 for almost every page we have until I do the above.

Good point Colin. Personalization has confused a lot of people and brought very little positive to the table in my opinion.

It might not have brought anything positive for those of us seeking a good organic result, in fact you might say it has killed the art of SEO for all but the most targeted results. However, the best way to guarantee a result on Google has become Adwords and as more people use Adwords the bidding for higher places has to get more. Maybe Google win.

In my opinion driving traffic to your site from social media is probably a better use of effort now compared to SEO.

This happens to me from time to time. It usually rectifies it self unless something structural has changed on the site.

Could be the google dance, Or around that time it was either the 8th or the 10th, Google algorithm changed slightly so it might be that the owners of the website was doing a bit of blackhat SEO and got caught in the change. Dont qoute me here, but I heard 4% of websites got slapped, but if you they carry on link building 9 times out of 10, they will bounce back.

For the geographic element, download (if you haven't got it) Google Global for Fire Fox, paste the url into ff hit search then click on the Google Global button and select UK.
Also brilliant if you offer Seo to other countries and want to check the country specific rankings.
