You may say they’re a justified response to Hamas’s actions, which of course are Hamas’s responsibility.

But Hamas isn’t responsible for Israeli actions any more than Israel is responsible for those of Hamas. We all have agency, and we’re all responsible for how we use it.

Currently even if they all changed their minds to decide Hams is the devil incarnate - how would anyone know and how would that be communicated to the IDF so they stop attacking ?

This is an area that now has as far as i can tell from outside - no functioning society at all, no democracy, little communications and no way to measure that support?

What you appear to be saying is "because pre Oct 7th 90% supported Hamas, you are all complicit in their crimes and must all be punished" - that is the very definition of collective punishment and is specifically banned under international law

Take the emotion of revenge out of things and just say what you think has to happen today for the Israeli government to be prepared to order the IDF to hold positions (not even retreat just hold where they are outside Rafah)?

On the other hand, I doubt the polling is at all reliable: Sinwar is known for having alleged collaborators buried alive by their own family, so Palestinians may not be perfectly candid when responding to surveys
