is there any need to use online methods such as myhammer to get quotes, or do you recieve enough work as it is?

trying to see what recommendations i can make to my friend

To be honest, I think good advertising and word of mouth is a lot more credible and more cost effective than the likes of myhammer.
I dont do any domestic work personally but a friend of mine has used such sites and his comments are that the customers that use such sites are normally after something for nothing and its not like enquiries are literally flooding in.

Never, ever heard anything good about these sites - at best a waste of time, at worst a waste of money.

Best bet is local advertising - local paper, shop windows, local advertiser mags, parish mags, flyers etc.

A well designed and layed out ad is essential.

Hi there, I have to say I agree with the other forum users that I don't think they're very effective in improving your business. I found that often there was a minimum contract of 12 months involved and no offer of a trial period so it was too much of a risk for a small business. A good reputation and word of mouth always pays off though.

Hi

We only started up last November and we have had most work from leaflet drops and a magazine ad. A local magazine called to sell us some advertising space and we basically said we would advertise if they did an editorial on us. They agreed and it has generated a bit of work and the magazine only went out last week :)
