Is the logo cheap?

Most of you know about my site at www.kashflow.co.uk - "accounting software desgined for you, not your accountant"

I've had a couple of comments saying that the logo looks cheap and detracts from a great product.

I'm now worried that that is the case and most others haven't mentioend it out of politeness. What do you guys think?

Also, I am in the process of developing a much improved version of the software and will be updating the text on the site as well.

Is it currently too text heavy? Do you think I need some stock images on there?

Any feedback much appreciated.

The logo looks fine to me, but I think some nice black and white (with perhaps a hint of pink) stock images on the left would look good.

Your bullet pointed list of links on the right is a little confusing on the eye. Could I suggest alternating the colour to say, one black, next one pink and so on down the list. This should seperate it out a bit.

It looks ok to me.

There are some very cheap and tacky logos aroung but I would say that yours is fine for the subject matter. It's using the right colours to convey a serious message and the image is sharp. It wouldn't put me off.

Just my opinion.

Be interested to know what the rest think.

I really like your logo. The only thing I might change would be to make the colour a little deeper so it stands out a bit more. But thats my opinion and as I said it is also good as it is now.

But you are right that it could be good to add a couple of images to the page to make it look a less heavy.

I think it looks cheap for you, I think of you bold and confident in my head. This logo looks weak and girly

I think you need something that will hit you in the face, so you'll remember the logo and think of you and your firm when you see it, if you get what I mean. Like when you see a top car logo, you think of good cars.

Thanks guys. Besides Jayne you all seem to think the logo is OK. So I'll see if I can get anyone else to agree with you Jayne. I'm reluctant to change it if I don't need to.

To me, it doesn't really look like a logo, more like an image with text on top.

Has the makings of a nice logo though. If it were me (and design is a very personal thing) I would make the colours deeper and solid instead of dotty, make the arrows more curved and smaller, so the company name could sit under the logo.

Duane instead of having the circles all being on a flat plane I would warp them a little in different places to make the arrows look as if they were coming from under the text

They're meant to be bubbles. You can see that on a high-res copy http://www.kashflow.co.uk/logo-300dpi.jpg and on printed stuff, it just doesn't work well at 72dpi.

From that I also think the pink bubbles should be coming from under the logo and then where it turns into an arrow it is them over the logo, rather than the other way round.

I think overall, the concept is sound but needs simplifying. The colour of the font to something more complimentary... and a little bolder to balance out the design.

Does your accounts system have a quotation provision?

Eg customer wants to book catering for 6 months time, we send a quotation, they pay a deposit, system reminds us to send invoice 2 weeks before event?

So, to summarize the responses:

The logo isn't perfect but none of you think it is damaging to the business or would have a negative impact on conversion rates.

Based on that I think I'll leave it as is for now atleast. Thanks for your comments, it's set my mind at rest about this (non-)issue.

I think your logo looks fine. It wouldn't put me off buying the software.

The first 2 things I look for when I'm checking out a software package is pricing and screenshots. I can see the 'take the tour' at the bottom of the page - but I do have to scroll to find that. I would add a TOUR link to the top menu too.

If you wanted to see how many people clicked the 'Take the tour' button at the bottom of the page (it might give an indication how many people read/scan the text on the home page), give it a slightly different link (e.g. simply add a ?ref=2) and any web traffic reports you use should be able to report how many clicks came from the button.

Tell you what would really improve your site is a banner I think your missing out not having one it makes your site look more professional and it will show off your logo alot better.

ImageMan, what do you mean by a banner? Do you mean I should have the top bit where the logo and navigation is seperated from the rest by blocking it out somehow?

Hi Duane

To me I think you have more of a problem with the layout and design of your website than the logo. I hate doing my books and find it really boring and frustrating that it takes so much time and has to be done so freequently. Doing the books is the thing I least enjoy about havging my own business and I think many people in my position feel the same.

I think it would help immensly if you highlighted a few key benefits of kashflow to your potential clients through the home page rather than try and give so much information on one page. I guess what i am trying to say is if you can quickly get accross to me what your product does, how easy it is to use and how much time and effort its going to save me along with a cost comparison to similar software I would at least read it.

I'm sure the content on your home page is important but I feel it would be better if the home page delivered a good strong message with the option to browse further in to the site for additional information if so required.

By the way, I hve looked at your website a few times and have never bothered to read all the information on it. Maybe I should as I could do with some easy to use accountancy software :wink:

Just thought I would add, as an example of what I was talking about take a look at the sage site and the quickbooks site. Both seem to dsiplay a powerful message quickly. I know they are big business and well established but these are the eggs you are in the basket with.
