Is my business idea viable?

Hello everyone,

I’m bored of being bored and I can’t be the only 32 year old feeling like this? I feel like Covid sucked away my social life and ever since the lockdowns, it has never come back to life. I imagine there’s many people out there that feel the same.

To solve this problem for myself and many others (i imagine), I would like to start an events company/that brings people together via various local events and activities. I don’t have any starting capital so my initial thought was to start some form of walking club for free.

This would encourage people to get out and socialise. From there I could grow organically by gauging what interests everyone has and trying to find things to do in the local area. One idea to monetise this would be to negotiate with local businesses for unique discounts on their services and add some sort of small booking fee in with that.

I guess my questions are:
Do you think this is a viable business option?
Do you have any ideas on where or how I could start?
What other ways could you see me monetising this venture?

I get emails almost daily with details of what’s on at various local places. Social media and other sites publish all sorts of local events. Google has a ‘what’s on’ feature.

There are already loads of ways to get news of local things.

Don’t see a problem with starting another promotional website but I doubt you will be able to monetise and if you market nationally it’s going to cost you a large wodge to market.

I would say if you make it personable in your approach you set yourself apart a bit from whats out there which is much more automated in some way.
When I think of business ideas I work out how much money I would like to make once its going and then work back to how much sales are needed to get that money in and then decide if thats likely, most times its not. I speak to people who have business ideas and thats the first thing I ask them and very often get a blank look. I had a friend who was collecting graphics to start a t-shirt printing business when I asked him what he was looking to make a year and told him how many t-shirts he would have to sell per day every day of the year and pack and address them I could see he just hadn't thought of it that way, it never started.

In my village there's a couple of lads who will take a group out Sunday am on a wild forageing, hunting & campfire cooking trip. Very popular & there's often 15-20 of 'em stomping through the woods, but how you could monetise something like that I have no idea.
