Imho, all Social Networking activities does boost our website traffic but it doesn't help any organic rankings. When we share something on Facebook with links attached, the links are nofollow and therefore has little to no value. The same goes with Twitter, LinkedIn & other Social Networking Sites.

Why is this even a question? Is Facebook best for SEO? ...

It's not a question of is Facebook best for SEO, the question is, how could you use Facebook as the social platform it is and reap some sort of SEO benefit.

Scenario:

You have a good community on Facebook and decide you have some amazing content you'd like to share with them. You update your status with a link to the amazing content that is hosted on your site. You gain traffic from that post via Facebook. The community then decides they like it so much they are going to share links to it from their own sites and voila, SEO benefit.

IMHO, I'd purely use Social media for what its used for - engaging users, forget SEO, that'll follow if the engaging and sharing is done correctly :)

The advice I was given, when setting up our website is:
Google change search criteria monthly. They have made it a priority to show the most relevant sites on the first page. To do this they want to see that your site is still running and people are "talking" about it. Therefor yes having a Facebook page is great - as long as you have "likes" Twitter also great as long as you have "followers" also pinterest, and google plus can be good depending on what products you have.

Basically they show that you are relevant plus it cant hurt because it costs nothing but time and could get you business.....why wouldn't you do it!!!

I have to admit though it is hard to think of things to say that keeps there attention...i'm not great at it. but i see alot of small companies with thousands of followers - especially on twitter.

Facebook is definitely not the best for SEO because there is no best for SEO.

It's just one part (but not an essential part if you're no good at it) of the marketing mix.

The best long term strategy for ranking well and generating traffic is to be active on all the big social platforms as well as blogs, online magazines and forums that are specific to your industry.

Create content for your sites. Create content for other sites in your industry. Be helpful and prolific and do things that your fans/customers will want to share and link to on a consistent basis.

Market Leadership is more valuable and profitable than SEO.

Facebook is the fastest growing social networking sites so it is called as best for seo
Sigh.... wish this topic would die ..........it's doing my head in with some of the idiotic replies from people who haven't a clue about the concept of SEO.

There's some good advice in this topic from a few switched on people who look at the wider picture but many are talking total rubbish unfortunately.

Rant over.... :p

The post you quoted was just a junk spambot post and I have deleted it. I suspect many of the other posts in this thread are too.

If you're looking for a social media platform that will really give you an SEO boost go for Google+. As you can imagine, Google want its own SM platform to do well and one of the best ways of doing this is giving it better SEO opportunities than its competitors.

While Facebook is OK for SEO purposes, if you don't have much time and want maximum effect go with G+! If you're not sure how to use it I'm in the middle of writing a how-to guide! Once that's done I can give you more advice on how to use G+ effectively.

Facebook is the best Social Networking sites among the Social Media. It has large number of users they any other Social Media. It will help to Like & Share the post and SEO of you site by bringing visitors to your site.

I think facebook is not enough for SEO. When I posts my links into some pages on facebook they delete immediately my posts with links. But there are some great benefits to liking some fb pages for your products. You can do cross linking within Facebook by commenting on relevant pages or by creating more pages yourself.

Thanks!!!

I guess, FB is a big help for promoting your website to have unique view and traffic. FB is the best for SEO, because we can share link to fb. Youtube and twitter and myspace also help you with this matter.

Facebook is an important platform for social media marketing. SEO is another way to promote your sites. They are not in same group. So facebook may be the best for SMM, but you need to learn more about SEO.

Facebook and SEO are 2 completely separate things but the same thing as the same time, it's very complicated!

Facebook likes, shares and comments on your website or our fanpage (which is linked to your site) attract something called social signals which Google takes into consideration for your site and is a top method at the moment for ranking.
