Hi all ..Is Facebook best for SEO ?

Presumably you mean will having a link to my site on Facebook help the SEO of my website.

Short answer is probably yes, but there is much more to optimising your website for SEO purposes than just getting a link to it from well known websites.

If you get a link from a high ranking site then you still need to have a well built quality site that is relevant to the subject matter. If not then Google won't be impressed, in fact if the relationship is debatable then it could even count against you and have an adverse effect.

In terms of SEO facebook is useless as the link you will be providing will be "nofollow" meaning it counts for near to nothing to Google crawlers. If you are looking to place backlinks you should go about doing so in blog articles and also some forums.

In terms of social marketing, I would highly recommend utilizing Facebook as you are advertising your business to millions of potential customers for free! (Or PPC however this costs money.) Hope I answered your question thoroughly.

I wasn't, it's something that people often don't consider. You make a good point by separating SEO and Social Media Marketing which people don't often do either.

Well then I guess you have a good point, for many time is scarce which is where you decide whether you want to dish out the money to get your SEO and Social Media Marketing done for you.

For social marketing, Facebook may be a good choise to get traffic . In your words ,to ensure a quality site is important to SEO as well as building high quality backlinks. right?

If you believe the research saying social signals (mostly Facebook shares) accounts for 20% of search algorithm, then yes it's massive.

If you don't believe it, or frequently consume whatever Rand says without giving it a critical eye, then it's a coincidence and not linked to rankings at all.

So I can say every action has its pros and cons.

Face book is a social network and I think social media is one of the best seo method to get ranked.

Social Media Marketing and Search Engine Optimization are two different things. Social Media Marketing for example Facebook, wont get you ranked. However other platforms for example squidoo lens that provide links with "dofollow" when crawled will get you ranked.

As of late I've been noticing Google + helping out with my SEO.

I mean all these sites (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace etc.) are going to give you some good authority backlinks to a particular post or page, but ultimately Google+ is Google's and they won't penalise their own.

I'd also say twitter is better than facebook is as well.

actaully guys....

Facebook is very good for SEO. as people share your links it builds a better algo reputation for your site for inbound link scores.

there is something called a link wheel strategy which is designed from networking sites and self published blogs.

SEO has nothing to do with Facebook at all.

SEO is Search Engine Optimisation. It covers the work that is done on a website to make it more relevant to search queries. It also tends to include creating back links to a site as they still form a large part of search ranking algorithms.

It my just be semantics, but SEO has nothing to do with Facebook.

Web marketing on the other hand does include Facebook (FB) as well as SEO along with emails, affiliates, product feeds etc - I think you are confusing web marketing with SEO. (as many people do)

FB can form an important part of any marketing campaign. It depends though on your business and your overall strategy as to how effective or how to implement it into your activities. You can't just set up an FB page and expect anything to happen on it's own.

The links you get from FB are no follow. They will not assist you with organic SERPs. Bing however is integrating with FB and you will find your personal SERPs results affected by friends of your liking particular products.

In short, FB is an important marketing tool. SEO is an important activity, but has nothing to do with Facebook.

IMO, Facebook is not that good for getting good SEO. For one thing, your posts are not that targeted and your prospects should be online at the same time you post your update. Other than that, it can be pretty useless to arbitrarily post updates.
