IP issues for a Chinese company wishing to explore its business in the UK

i am a new comer here and wish to set up a branch in the UK. i was aware that IP such as trade marks or designs might be a legal concern for me. can someone provide any guidance regarding what i have to check before business operation?

Yes, I am afraid it is a lot more tightly controlled than in China. If you step on someone's trademark, design mark, patent, IP, etc you can get in real trouble.

If you are selling a product and you think this might be a concern I would talk to a trademark attorney. They can do the searches for you, although they are normally not cheap.

You can also check yourself on the IPO website but again, be very careful. If you accidentally step on a big name's toes, they can shut you down and hit you for damages too.
