    Hey guys

I guess you have noticed Interflora has returned to SERPs after disappearing a short while ago.

I am surprised about this bounce back to normality after their slap and manual warning, this is very quick indeed.

Do you think Interflora cleaned up their links and submitted a reconsideration request in a matter of a couple of days and have now been classed as one of the 'good boys' again?

What other actions do you think they may have taken?

Surely the message from this is that you should use dodgy SEO methods. If they work, you get to be #1 for a long time... and there's no real penalty if you get caught.

(Just say you're sorry, clean up your links and start again.)

Google will have done exactly what they did with Business.com, Nike & BMW when THEY got slapped. Google will provide the company with a search engineer who will help them sort things out, get a promise to correct, pay the massive fee, and then override the penalty manually.

Google loves brands and will NEVER remove a brand even if they committed mass murder, Google would do their best to keep them in their index.

Sure, if you have a high street brand then absolutely. If me or you do the same tactics to one of our own sites, we'll more than likely end up penalised with absolutely no way out of it. Its definitely one rule for some people, and another for everyone else.

Do you guys think it was a manual penalty or a algorithm penalty?

If it was an algorithm penalty then it will certainly use the default penalty period, i.e. 6 month ban or lifetime ban until the spam is removed.

However the it seems that in this case it was a manual penalty, given how established the brand is and how much natural SEO weight it would have (from organic links), the violating paid links could have easily gone under the radar of any algorithm. So my gut feeling is that it was a manual penalty handed by the search team which was removed after the links were fixed.

probably received the manual penalty after the seo firm for the rival flower company made a few complaints.

I don't know how effective google algoritm is at devaluing or removing link weight from articles talking negatively about a website, yet linking to it. Supposedly negative reviews should not have a positive effect seo wise. In any case interflora probably received a tonne of links from the public outing.. All these high authority SEO blogs discussing interflora must have had a resounding effect on their link profile.

    Manual. No doubt about it.

Well on the serps I can only see interflora bidding on their own brand (a big boy technique, not to be used by the hard up)

So perhaps they withdrew their massive adwords spend subject to being re-instated - unlikely but funny if they have.
