i would really appreciate ideas to get more sales from my new business.
I have posted on social media and given discount codes but sales haven’t increased. I have a website but the link couldn’t be attached on here until I have done more posts.

Ideas please.

Thank you

Karen Preston-Freeman.

Are the people who want your products looking on social media for those products? If not then your posts have little value. And even if they did find your posts only a small fraction will follow the link and even fewer will convert.

Does your site rank well on google? Are you advertising? Are your products listed on eBay and Amazon? Is the site constructed in a way to encourage sales?

The problem many new businesses have is there are already a huge number of alternatives. Unless you have a viable product and a good sized marketing budget the chances of success are slim.

But....

If you have a viable product you can get your customers to do you marketing for you. What are you selling and to whom? How much money have you put aside for marketing? Have you identified your target customer? What other channels are available to buy these products?

If your site didn’t exist where would you buy these products? Is your marketing better than the competition?

Hi Karen,

What's your product? Do you have a large amount of audience in your social media accounts? Do you know what your target audience is?

I agree with @fisicx's question. Are you advertising? Or are you just posting your discount codes on your pages?

These are questions that you need to answer first before we can really suggest or recommend anything. Increasing sales from your website or via social media don't happen overnight. It takes a good amount of research, a great plan, and excellent execution.

Thanks both, my business is costume jewellery. I have tried posting on various social media and I have 5 events booked in the next 2 weeks so hopefully they will be good promotional opportunities. Perhaps I’m expecting too much too soon, My husband said so too, I think with the time of year I thought I would get more interest. I know I have a lot to learn as I was previously an Assistant Headteacher and left after having a brain haemorrage.

And there are gazillions of people selling costume jewellery. What makes your range so different?
I have tried posting on various social media....
Mostly pointless. Very few people will ever see these posts.

The big problem is you aren't doing anything different. There a loads of people all successfully selling costume jewellery on a range of different platforms. If you want a slice of that pie you need to work much harder and invest a lot more time and effort in marketing. It isn't easy.

Is this you: http://www.prettyspiritualjewellery.co.uk/

If it is the site needs an awful lot of work.

Website reviews are only for full members. But to give you a hint: you need to sell the products not just display them.

I would keep expanding, i'm sure you can add much more to your site, add reviews, discounts and/or promotional offers to get people to buy.

Use external sites and there's loads of coupon sites you could add some form of discount just to get people in and link the product to the page to make it easier for them. The simpler the better in some ways.

Is it a physical shop or just online?

Hey Karen, though you own an eCommerce store. You will get more out of that by promoting your products on Pinterest, Instagram or other similar sites.
No she won't. There are thousands of jewellery pinterest and Instagram accounts and 99.,9% get almost zero traffic.

Sorry to be all negative but none of this will work. There is just way too much competition.

Fix the site and pay for adverts. This is the only practical way to achieve anything.

Karen.

I've not looked at your website but I don't think I need to. I would suggest you try a sales funnel though... using paid traffic from facebook/instagram with a very tight focus on your ideal customer.. do you know who that ideal customer is? You need to know that clearly, because it will inform you on what messaging and copy, plus image to use.

> Facebook ad does the preframe and actual selling, before they click on it, you're warming them up.

> Send that traffic to an incredible offer, FREE + shipping works well. (never to an ecom site, it's setting fire to cash)

> Then you upsell them immediately

> Then you keep putting your message in front of them through a sequence of emails.

Probably you need to consider the lifestyle sale, rather than THE product itself. It';s not what you want to hear, you have a lot of things to learn and do.. but get stuck in.

In summary random posts to SoMe = total waste of time and energy (unless you can build a tight FB Group of raging fans) - and go from there.

Hope that gets you thinking a little.
Cheers

Start a YouTube's channel

show off your bling

really do your homework on finding the right products at the right price

Don't rush, take your time and solid organic growth will be assured

Think of yourself as 'the eye of your future customers' ... you do the huntwork so they don't have too

Humans are magpies, every now and then I'll pick up some bling simply because it has some it factor...gets added to my design/bling cupboard for artistic reference

I've found a lot of the points made on this thread quite interesting - give that I, like almost every small business owner, is also seeking to increase sales and web traffic.

However, I'd disagree with the comments against the use of social media. Instagram can work wonders to display your products, offer competitions in order to increase your viewer-base and allows a down-to-earth platform that potential customers can casually inquire about your products (which can, speaking from personal experience, lead to sales.)

There are millions of ways you can drive traffic towards your store, like seo, adwords, social media, native ads, writing blogs and spreading the word: After you’ve created your blog use various different platforms to publish them.
Also, optimize your store. Driving traffic is a short-term goal, retaining your clients is a harder and far more important a goal.

I agree with the other guys, you are really going to struggle with getting decent numbers on social media without a story.

Why not try increasing your prices slightly to I corporate giving a percentage to a specific charity, animals or a specific animal for example. Then use your social media pages to release constant content all around these animals and your jewellery and how purchases help to save money. You have a niche product But will be putting your self into a niche market and sometimes a good enough charity campaign could get your numbers up.

But seriously you have to commit to daily content.
Get in touch if you decide to and I'll be happy to talk about some ideas.

Hi Karen, some thoughts, hope they help,
  1. Add a personal touch to your Welcome page; sign it Karen (and a pic?)
  2. Put terms & conditions on a separate page and use the Useful Links page to add links to other spiritual websites (non-jewellery ones) in return for a link to yours
  3. Offer alternative payment methods - not everyone likes paying by Paypal
  4. Attend art fairs - jewellery is a tactile item (share the cost of stand with someone else, not selling jewellery, to save money)
  5. Sell in gift shops and/or charity shops in your town or nearby - jewellery is often an impulse buy, get your jewellery out there on display and sales will increase
  6. Share the feeling of well being - donate a percentage of profits to (local) charities and mention it on your site
Good luck.

well I think Firstly you should know where your Customers are and what they want. posting on social media or any other social platform is good for promotions but not for sales. You should target specific keywords related to your business for PPC and try to rank on google by optimising your website.
