I am purchasing a 120 bottles from a protein shaker company, but this company is based in the US. I will be be buying the bottles for 4.85 a unit, however the importing price brings the unit cost to 9.85 each! Surely theres a better way as otherwise i will not be making any profit, please send any info on how I can import these bottles for a cheaper price, Thanks.

The key to cutting your cost per unit will be increasing the size of the order and moving it by sea rather than by air (courier).

Thanks, but how many will I be looking at until that cost per unit is lowered to at least 50% of this price (unit price + importing price).

I mean is it normal for a courier to charge more than the actual price of the product, because it seems like a stretch I feel like the company i'm buying the bottles from aren't giving me the right price.

To calculate that for you I would need to know where the goods are coming from in the States, the weight and dimensions of the packaging etc. How much they are currently charging you for shipping etc

Right so the company is Fuelshaker, from Delaware.
The packaging is 1 metre in height, 1.5 metres in width and 1 metre in depth.
It weighs 40kg.
They are currently charging £640 to import it from Delaware, US to Uk Leeds

How are they being sent? At that price, presumably by air. Even then though, the price sounds awfully high.

That £640 presumably doesn't include VAT. From what I can see, protein shakes would be considered sports drinks and therefore subject to standard VAT.

Well they are the bottles, so no powder or drink, simple the bottles.

In which case, I'm pretty sure they'll be subject to VAT, but you will also be paying VAT on the cost of freight as well.

So is there a way of reducing the cost dramatically, such as through freight but a specific company that could do it for far cheaper.

Others will give you a better answer, as I don't import from the US, but you could ask them for a quote using FedEx or UPS to see if it's cheaper. Otherwise, your main option would be to import via sea freight.

Ultimately, if you can't make the costs work for you, then you'll need to either abandon the product, raise the price that you sell, or source the product somewhere closer to home.

Is there something special about these protein shaker bottles ?
I but them from a local cash and carry for 48p + VAT each in boxes of 12.
Not saying they are the same thing, but the price seems high to me. The dearest ones I could find on one quick Google search were £7.95

the bottle is very light but big , it's bulky cargo . forwarder usually charge the Shipping cost by volume for these products , the volume weight is 300kg as you described dimension . this is the most important reason make the cost higher . best choice is shipment by sea .

Yes of course the cheapest shipment is by sea. May I know where are you from. Why not sourcing your products from China or India. It may be much cheaper than US. As to shipping cost, it depends on which shipping methods would like to use.
